Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use of your Yamaha EMX5 12-input Stereo Powered Mixer. The EMX5 integrates a mixer and a power amplifier into a single, portable unit, designed for various sound reinforcement applications. It features DSP effects, output EQ, and feedback suppression.

Setup
1. Power Connection
- Ensure the power switch is in the OFF position before connecting the power cord.
- Connect the supplied power cord to the AC IN connector on the rear panel and then to a suitable AC outlet.
2. Speaker Connection
- Connect your passive speakers to the SPEAKER OUT jacks on the EMX5. Ensure the impedance of your speakers matches the amplifier's specifications (e.g., 4Ω or 8Ω).
- For optimal performance, use high-quality speaker cables.
3. Input Connections
The EMX5 features 12 input channels. Channels 1-4 are equipped with combo jacks (XLR/TRS) for microphones or line-level devices. Channels 5/6 through 11/12 offer various input options.
- Microphones: Connect microphones to the XLR inputs on channels 1-4. If using condenser microphones, activate +48V phantom power via the dedicated switch.
- Line-Level Devices: Connect instruments (keyboards, guitars with preamps), CD players, or other audio devices to the TRS or RCA inputs.
- High-Impedance Input: Channel 4 features a Hi-Z switch for direct connection of passive guitars or basses.

Operating Instructions
1. Basic Operation
- Power On: After all connections are made, turn on the EMX5 power switch.
- Input Gain: Adjust the GAIN knob for each channel to achieve an optimal input level. The PEAK indicator should flash only occasionally.
- Channel EQ: Use the HIGH, MID, and LOW knobs to adjust the tonal balance of each input channel.
- Channel Level: Adjust the LEVEL knob for each channel to set its volume within the mix.
- Master Level: Use the MASTER LEVEL control to adjust the overall output volume.
2. DSP Effects (SPX Effects)
The EMX5 includes a built-in SPX multi-effect processor. To apply effects:
- Select an effect program using the PROGRAM knob and display.
- Adjust the PARAMETER knob to fine-tune the selected effect.
- Use the FX RTN LEVEL knob to control the overall volume of the effects return.
- Use the FX ON switch to engage or disengage the effects.
3. Feedback Suppression
The EMX5 features a Feedback Suppressor function to automatically detect and eliminate feedback. Activate this function via the dedicated switch in the AMPLIFIER section.
4. Output EQ
Adjust the MONITOR EQ and MASTER EQ controls to fine-tune the overall sound for your monitor and main outputs, respectively.
