Always read all instructions before using the appliance. Keep this manual for future reference. Basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following:
- Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
- To protect against fire, electric shock and personal injury, do not immerse cord, plugs, or appliance in water or other liquid.
- Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
- Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
- Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. Return appliance to the nearest authorized service facility for examination, repair or adjustment.
- The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may result in fire, electric shock or personal injury.
- Do not use outdoors.
- Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
- Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
- Always attach plug to appliance first, then plug cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to "off", then remove plug from wall outlet.
- Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
- Scalding may occur if the lid is removed during the brewing cycles.
- This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.
Setup
1. Unpacking and Initial Cleaning
- Carefully remove the coffee machine from its packaging.
- Remove all packing materials, including any protective films or stickers.
- Wash the carafe, filter basket, permanent filter, and removable water reservoir with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
- Wipe the exterior of the appliance with a damp cloth.
2. Positioning the Appliance
Place the coffee machine on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface, away from water sources and heat. Ensure there is adequate space around the unit for ventilation and access to controls.

3. Initial Rinse Cycle
Before first use, perform an initial rinse cycle to clean the internal components:
- For Drip Coffee: Fill the drip coffee water reservoir (frontal loading) with fresh water up to the MAX level. Place the empty carafe on the warming plate. Run a full brewing cycle without coffee grounds. Discard the water.
- For Espresso: Fill the removable 40-ounce water reservoir for the espresso side with fresh water. Place a cup under the espresso spouts. Turn on the espresso function and allow water to flow through until the reservoir is empty. Repeat this process for the frothing wand, allowing steam to release for a few seconds.
Operating Instructions
1. Drip Coffee Preparation
- Fill Water Reservoir: Open the frontal loading system and fill the water reservoir with fresh, cold water to the desired level, indicated by the cup markings on the carafe. The maximum capacity is 10 cups.
- Add Coffee Grounds: Place the permanent gold-tone filter (or a paper filter) into the filter basket. Add the desired amount of ground coffee. A general guideline is one level tablespoon of coffee per cup.
- Place Carafe: Ensure the glass carafe is correctly positioned on the warming plate.
- Brew Coffee: Press the "ON/OFF" button for the drip coffee side. The indicator light will illuminate, and brewing will begin.
- Programmable Timer: To use the 24-hour programmable timer, set the current time using the "HOUR" and "MIN" buttons. Then, press the "AUTO" button and set the desired brew time. The machine will automatically start brewing at the set time.
- 1-4 Cup Function: For smaller batches (1-4 cups), press the "1-4" button before brewing to optimize flavor extraction.
- Keep Warm: After brewing, the warming plate will keep the coffee warm for up to two hours before automatically shutting off.
2. Espresso Preparation
- Fill Water Reservoir: Ensure the removable 40-ounce water reservoir for the espresso side is filled with fresh water.
- Preheat: Turn on the espresso machine by pressing the "ON" button. Wait for the indicator light to signal that the machine has reached the optimal temperature.
- Prepare Portafilter: Insert the appropriate filter (single or double shot) into the portafilter. Add finely ground espresso coffee and tamp it firmly using the included tamper/measuring spoon.
- Attach Portafilter: Securely attach the portafilter to the group head by twisting it to the right until it is tightly locked.
- Brew Espresso: Place one or two espresso cups under the spouts. Press the espresso brew button. The machine will begin extracting espresso. Press the button again to stop the flow when the desired volume is reached.
3. Milk Frothing (for Cappuccino/Latte)
- Prepare Milk: Fill a stainless steel frothing pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) to about one-third full.
- Activate Steam: Turn the steam knob to the steam position. Wait for the steam indicator light to illuminate, indicating the frothing wand is ready.
- Froth Milk: Immerse the frothing wand tip just below the surface of the milk. Open the steam valve slowly. Move the pitcher up and down to create foam. For a latte, immerse the wand deeper for less foam.
- Clean Wand: Immediately after frothing, wipe the frothing wand with a damp cloth to prevent milk residue from drying. Briefly release steam to clear any internal blockages.
Maintenance
1. Daily Cleaning
- Carafe and Filter Basket: Wash with warm, soapy water after each use.
- Drip Tray: Empty and clean the drip tray regularly.
- Portafilter: Remove spent coffee grounds and rinse the portafilter and filter basket.
- Frothing Wand: Wipe immediately after use and purge steam to prevent blockages.
2. Descaling
Over time, mineral deposits (limescale) can build up in the machine, affecting performance and taste. Descale the machine every few months, or more frequently if you have hard water.
- Use a commercial descaling solution specifically designed for coffee machines, or a mixture of white vinegar and water (1:1 ratio).
- Follow the descaling solution's instructions for dilution and application.
- Run the descaling solution through both the drip coffee and espresso circuits.
- After descaling, run several cycles of fresh water through the machine to rinse thoroughly.
3. Water Filter Replacement
If your model uses a water filter, replace it according to the manufacturer's recommendations, typically every 2-3 months, to ensure optimal water quality and machine longevity.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Coffee not brewing (Drip) | No water in reservoir; machine not plugged in; timer not set correctly. | Fill water reservoir; ensure machine is plugged in; check timer settings. |
| Weak espresso | Coffee too coarse; not enough coffee; insufficient tamping. | Use finer grind; increase coffee amount; tamp more firmly. |
| No steam from frothing wand | Wand clogged; not heated sufficiently; steam knob not open. | Clean wand thoroughly; wait for steam indicator; open steam knob fully. |
| Water leaking from machine | Water reservoir not seated correctly; overfilled reservoir; damaged component. | Ensure reservoir is properly seated; do not overfill; contact customer support if damage is suspected. |
| Coffee tastes burnt (Drip) | Coffee sitting on warming plate too long; old coffee grounds. | Brew fresh coffee; remove carafe from warming plate after 2 hours; clean carafe. |
