4. Setup
4.1 Unpacking
Carefully remove the laser level and all included accessories from the packaging. Verify that all components are present:

- Magnetic L-Adapter (LE00870131)
- Magnetic Red Target Plate (LE00785638)
- Storage Pouch
4.2 Battery Installation
The SK105DZ is a tool-only product and requires a Makita 12V max CXT Lithium-Ion battery (sold separately).
- Ensure the laser level is turned off.
- Locate the battery compartment on the tool.
- Align the battery with the battery slot, ensuring the ribs on the battery align with the grooves in the housing.
- Slide the battery into place until it clicks securely.
- To remove, press the battery release button and slide the battery out.
4.3 Mounting the Laser Level
The laser level can be placed on a flat, stable surface or mounted using the Magnetic L-Adapter.
- On a Surface: Place the laser level on a level, vibration-free surface.
- Using L-Adapter: Attach the Magnetic L-Adapter to the bottom of the laser level. The adapter allows for attachment to metallic surfaces or a tripod (tripod not included) via its threaded mount.

5. Operation
5.1 Powering On and Self-Leveling
- Ensure a charged 12V max CXT battery is installed.
- Slide the power switch to the 'ON' position. The laser will emit a red beam.
- The tool will automatically self-level within approximately 3 seconds. If the tool is outside its self-leveling range, the laser lines will blink rapidly. Adjust the tool's position until the lines become steady.
5.2 Selecting Laser Modes
The SK105DZ offers different laser line configurations:
- Press the mode button (usually marked with a laser icon) to cycle through the available modes:
- Horizontal line only
- Vertical line only
- Cross-line (horizontal and vertical lines simultaneously)
- Select the mode appropriate for your application.
5.3 Using the Target Plate
The Magnetic Red Target Plate (LE00785638) enhances the visibility of the laser beam, especially in bright conditions or over longer distances. Place the target plate at the desired measurement point to clearly see the laser line.
5.4 Pulse Mode (for Laser Detector)
For outdoor use or when working over very long distances (up to 262 feet), the laser level can be used with a Makita Laser Detector (sold separately). Activate the pulse mode on the laser level (refer to the tool's specific button for this function, often indicated by a pulse icon) to enable detection by the receiver.

6.1 Cleaning
- Regularly clean the laser lens and housing with a soft, dry cloth.
