5. Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular cleaning is essential for optimal performance and to prevent mineral buildup and bacterial growth. It is recommended to clean the water tank and transducer at least once every two to three weeks, or more frequently depending on water conditions and usage.
Daily Maintenance:
- Empty the water tank and base reservoir.
- Rinse the tank and reservoir with clean water.
- Allow to air dry before reassembling.
Weekly Cleaning:
- Unplug and Disassemble: Ensure the humidifier is unplugged. Remove the water tank from the base.
- Clean Tank: Unscrew the tank cap. Wipe the inside of the tank with a soft cloth or brush. For mineral buildup, fill the tank with a mixture of 1 teaspoon of white vinegar and 1 gallon of water. Let it soak for 20 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
- Clean Transducer/Ultrasonic Membrane: Locate the ultrasonic membrane (small metal disc) inside the base reservoir. Use a soft brush (a small cleaning brush is often included) to gently clean the surface. Do not scrape or use harsh tools. For mineral buildup, apply a small amount of white vinegar to the transducer and let it soak for a few minutes, then wipe clean.
- Clean Base Reservoir: Wipe the inside of the base reservoir with a soft cloth. For mineral buildup, fill the reservoir with a mixture of white vinegar and water (1:1 ratio) and let it soak for 20 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
- Rinse and Dry: Rinse all components thoroughly with clean water until the smell of vinegar is gone. Allow all parts to air dry completely before reassembling.
Demineralization Cartridge:
The included demineralization cartridge helps reduce mineral residue from hard water. Replace the cartridge approximately every 30-40 fillings, or when you notice an increase in white dust around the humidifier. Replacement cartridges can be purchased from HoMedics authorized retailers.
