3. Setup
Attaching the Moto Mod:
- Ensure your Moto Z series smartphone is clean and free of debris on its back surface.
- Align the Hasselblad True Zoom Camera with the magnetic connectors on the back of your Moto Z phone.
- Gently snap the Moto Mod into place. The strong magnets will secure it firmly. You should feel a slight click and the phone may vibrate or display a notification indicating the Mod is connected.
Initial Power-On:
Once attached, the Hasselblad True Zoom Camera draws power directly from your Moto Z phone. There is no separate power button for the Mod itself. The camera will automatically activate when you open the camera application on your smartphone.
Ensure your smartphone has sufficient battery charge, as the camera module will utilize the phone's power during operation.
4. Operating the Camera
Taking Photos:
- Activate Camera: Open the default camera application on your Moto Z smartphone. The Hasselblad True Zoom lens will extend, indicating it is ready for use.
- Focus: The camera features autofocus. Tap on the screen to set a specific focus point if needed.
- Capture Image: Press the dedicated physical shutter button on the Moto Mod to take a photo. A half-press may initiate autofocus, and a full press will capture the image.
Using Optical Zoom:
The Hasselblad True Zoom features a 10x optical zoom. Use the physical zoom rocker or lever on the Moto Mod to adjust the focal length. Zooming in optically maintains image quality, unlike digital zoom.
Using Digital Zoom (up to 40x):
After reaching the maximum 10x optical zoom, the camera app may allow for additional digital zoom, extending up to 40x. To enable this, swipe right on the viewfinder within the camera app and look for a setting labeled "Use Digital Zoom". Please note that digital zoom interpolates pixels and will result in a reduction of image quality compared to optical zoom.
Xenon Flash:
The powerful Xenon flash provides bright, even illumination. The flash settings can be controlled through the camera application on your smartphone (Auto, On, Off, Red-eye reduction).
Shooting in RAW Format:
For maximum flexibility in post-processing, the camera supports shooting in RAW (DNG) format. This option can typically be found in the camera app's settings. RAW files are larger and require specialized software for editing, but they retain more image data than standard JPEG files.
Video Recording:
The Hasselblad True Zoom Camera also supports video recording. Select the video mode within your smartphone's camera app. The optical zoom and Xenon flash can be utilized during video capture.
5. Maintenance
Cleaning:
- Lens: Use a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth specifically designed for camera lenses. For stubborn smudges, a small amount of lens cleaning solution can be applied to the cloth (never directly to the lens).
- Body: Wipe the camera body with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
- Connectors: Keep the magnetic connectors on both the Moto Mod and your phone clean and dry to ensure proper connection.
Storage:
When not in use, store the Hasselblad True Zoom Camera in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. It is recommended to use the protective case that often accompanies the product to prevent scratches and dust accumulation.
6. Troubleshooting
Common Issues and Solutions:
- Camera Not Connecting/Recognized:
- Ensure the Moto Mod is properly aligned and securely attached to your phone.
- Clean the magnetic connectors on both the Mod and the phone.
- Restart your smartphone.
- Check for any available software updates for your phone and the camera app.
- Excessive Battery Drain:
- The optical zoom and Xenon flash consume more power than the phone's built-in camera. This is normal.
- Reduce usage time or carry a portable power bank for extended shooting sessions.
- Ensure no other power-intensive apps are running in the background.
- Zoom Control Feels Fast/Sensitive:
- Practice using the zoom rocker with gentle, precise movements.
- Check camera app settings for any zoom speed adjustments, if available.
- Image Quality Issues:
- Ensure the lens is clean and free of smudges.
- Avoid using digital zoom excessively, as it can degrade image quality.
- Ensure adequate lighting for your shots, especially when not using the flash.
