1. Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective operation of your Voltcraft BC-10 Battery Charger. Please read these instructions thoroughly before using the device to ensure proper function and to prevent damage or injury. This charger is designed for charging 6V, 12V, and 24V lead-acid batteries, including WET, MF, CA, EFB, GEL, AGM, and LiFePO4 types.
2. Safety Instructions
Always observe the following safety precautions to prevent electric shock, fire, or injury.
- Read All Instructions: Familiarize yourself with the charger's operation and safety features before use.
- Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation during charging. Batteries can produce explosive gases.
- Eye and Skin Protection: Wear appropriate eye protection and gloves when working with batteries. Battery acid is corrosive.
- Avoid Sparks: Do not smoke or allow sparks or flames in the vicinity of the battery or charger.
- Proper Connection: Connect the charger to the battery terminals correctly (positive to positive, negative to negative).
- Disconnect Power First: Always disconnect the AC power from the charger before connecting or disconnecting the battery clamps.
- Indoor Use Only: This charger is designed for indoor use. Do not expose it to rain or moisture.
- Damaged Charger: Do not operate the charger if it has been dropped, damaged, or exposed to water. Contact qualified service personnel.

4. Product Overview
The Voltcraft BC-10 features an intuitive control panel with LED indicators for charging status and mode selection.

Image 4.1: Front panel of the Voltcraft BC-10 charger, highlighting the LED indicators for charge percentage (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%), voltage selection (6V, 12V, 24V), special modes (COLD TEMP, AGM/REFRESH), and status (POWER, FAULT).
4.1. Control Panel Indicators
- POWER: Illuminates when the charger is connected to AC power.
- MODE Button: Press to cycle through available charging modes (6V, 12V, 24V, COLD TEMP, AGM/REFRESH).
- Voltage Indicators (6V, 12V, 24V): Indicate the currently selected charging voltage.
- Special Mode Indicators (COLD TEMP, AGM/REFRESH): Indicate activation of specific charging programs.
- Charge Progress Indicators (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%): Show the approximate charge level of the battery.
- FAULT: Illuminates if an error occurs (e.g., reverse polarity, short circuit, damaged battery).
5. Setup
Follow these steps to prepare your Voltcraft BC-10 for charging.
- Position the Charger: Place the charger on a stable, flat surface away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and moisture. Ensure good ventilation.
- Connect Battery Clamps:
- Connect the red (+) clamp to the positive (+) terminal of the battery.
- Connect the black (-) clamp to the negative (-) terminal of the battery.
Ensure a secure connection. Incorrect polarity will trigger the FAULT indicator.
- Connect AC Power: Plug the AC power cable into a standard wall outlet. The POWER indicator on the charger will illuminate.

6. Operating Instructions
Once the charger is set up, follow these steps to begin charging your battery.
- Select Charging Mode: Press the MODE button repeatedly to cycle through the available charging programs until the desired voltage (6V, 12V, or 24V) and any special modes (COLD TEMP, AGM/REFRESH) are selected. The corresponding LED indicators will light up.
- Monitor Charging Progress: The 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% LEDs will illuminate sequentially to indicate the battery's charge level.
- Charging Complete: When the 100% LED is steadily lit, the battery is fully charged. The charger will automatically switch to a maintenance (float) charge mode to prevent overcharging.
- Disconnecting the Charger:
- First, unplug the AC power cable from the wall outlet.
- Then, disconnect the black (-) clamp from the battery's negative terminal.
- Finally, disconnect the red (+) clamp from the battery's positive terminal.
6.1. Special Charging Modes
- COLD TEMP: Use this mode when charging batteries in cold environments (below 5°C / 41°F). This mode adjusts the charging voltage to compensate for temperature effects.
- AGM/REFRESH: This mode is suitable for AGM batteries and can also be used for reconditioning deeply discharged or sulfated batteries. Consult your battery manufacturer's recommendations before using the refresh function.
7. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your charger.
- Cleaning: Disconnect the charger from all power sources before cleaning. Wipe the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the charger in a cool, dry place when not in use. Keep cables neatly coiled to prevent damage.
- Cable Inspection: Regularly inspect the AC power cable and battery clamp cables for any signs of damage, such as cuts or fraying. Do not use the charger if cables are damaged.
8. Troubleshooting
Refer to this section for common issues and their solutions.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| FAULT indicator is lit. | Reverse polarity connection. | Disconnect AC power, then correctly connect red (+) clamp to positive (+) terminal and black (-) clamp to negative (-) terminal. |
| FAULT indicator is lit. | Short circuit or damaged battery. | Check for short circuits in the cables or battery. If the battery is severely damaged, it may not accept a charge. Consult a professional. |
| Charger not turning on (POWER LED off). | No AC power. | Check the AC power connection and the wall outlet. Ensure the power cable is not damaged. |
| Battery not charging or charging slowly. | Incorrect mode selected or battery deeply discharged. | Ensure the correct voltage mode is selected. For deeply discharged batteries, the refresh mode might be necessary, or the battery may be beyond recovery. |
