5. Setup

5.1 Rack Installation

  1. Attach the provided rack rails to your standard 19-inch server rack.
  2. Carefully slide the ReadyNAS RR3312G0 unit onto the installed rails until it clicks into place.
  3. Secure the unit to the rack using the front mounting screws.

5.2 Drive Installation

The ReadyNAS RR3312G0 supports up to twelve 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch SATA hard drives or SSDs. Drives are not included and must be purchased separately.

  1. Open the latch on an empty drive tray.
  2. Mount your hard drive or SSD into the drive tray using the provided screws.
  3. Slide the drive tray into an empty drive bay until it clicks securely into place.
  4. Repeat for all desired drives.

For optimal performance and data protection, it is recommended to use drives of the same capacity and type.

5.3 Initial Power-Up and Network Connection

  1. Connect one or more Ethernet cables from the LAN ports on the rear panel to your network switch or router.
  2. Connect the power cords from the power supply units to grounded electrical outlets.
  3. Press the power button on the front panel. The system will begin its boot sequence.

5.4 Initial Configuration (ReadyCLOUD)

The ReadyNAS RR3312G0 is managed via the NETGEAR ReadyCLOUD portal or the local web interface.

  1. From a computer connected to the same network, open a web browser and navigate to readycloud.netgear.com.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to discover and set up your ReadyNAS. This typically involves creating a ReadyCLOUD account (if you don't have one) and assigning a name to your NAS.
  3. The setup wizard will guide you through creating your initial storage volume, which will automatically configure X-RAID for data protection.

7.1 Firmware Updates

Regularly check for and install firmware updates to ensure optimal performance, security, and access to new features. Updates can be managed through the ReadyNAS OS web interface.

  2. Check for available updates and follow the prompts to install them.
  3. The system will reboot after a successful update.

7.2 Drive Replacement

The ReadyNAS RR3312G0 supports hot-swapping of drives. If a drive fails, the X-RAID volume will enter a degraded state. Replace the failed drive as soon as possible.

  1. Identify the failed drive via the LED indicator on the drive bay or through the ReadyNAS OS web interface.
  2. Carefully pull the failed drive tray out of the bay.
  3. Remove the failed drive from the tray and install a new, compatible drive.
  4. Slide the new drive tray into the empty bay until it clicks into place.
  5. The ReadyNAS will automatically begin rebuilding the volume with the new drive. Monitor the progress through the web interface.

Periodically clean the exterior of the NAS with a soft, dry cloth. Ensure ventilation openings are free from dust and debris. Do not use liquid cleaners directly on the device.
