5. Installation

5.1 Planning and Deck Preparation

Careful planning is crucial for a successful installation. Ensure the chosen location on the deck provides sufficient space for the windlass, chain locker access, and proper chain run to the bow roller. The windlass is designed for above-deck installation.

5.2 Mounting the Windlass

  1. Use the provided drilling template (if applicable) or the dimensions from the manual to mark the positions for the main shaft hole, chain drop hole, and mounting bolt holes on the deck.
  2. Drill all necessary holes. Ensure the chain drop hole aligns directly above your chain locker.
  3. Apply the base gasket seal to the underside of the windlass base.
  4. Position the windlass on the deck, aligning the holes. Pass the mounting studs through the deck and secure them from below with washers and nuts. It is recommended to use thread locker on the bolts to prevent loosening.

5.3 Electrical Connections

Refer to the wiring diagram provided in your kit for precise electrical connections. The system requires a dual-direction solenoid, foot switches (up/down), and a circuit breaker for motor protection. Ensure all connections are waterproof and secure.

5.4 Installing the Anchor Chain

Proper installation of the anchor chain is critical for safe operation.

  1. Before installing the chain, use the provided wrench to turn the clutch counter-clockwise to loosen it until the gypsy can move freely.
  2. Feed the anchor chain through the bow roller and then through the windlass gypsy. Ensure each chain link is correctly seated between the gypsy's teeth.
  3. Secure the end of the anchor chain to a strong point inside the chain locker.
  4. Once the chain is correctly positioned, turn the clutch clockwise with the wrench to tighten it completely. This prevents accidental free-fall of the anchor.

6. Operation

6.1 Deploying the Anchor

  1. Ensure the chain stopper is open or disengaged.
  2. Press and hold the 'DOWN' button on the control panel or foot switch to deploy the anchor.
  3. Alternatively, for rapid deployment, you can manually release the clutch by turning the wrench counter-clockwise. Ensure the area is clear before doing so.

6.2 Hoisting the Anchor

  1. Ensure the clutch is fully tightened (clockwise with wrench).
  2. Press and hold the 'UP' button on the control panel or foot switch to hoist the anchor.
  3. Once the anchor is fully retrieved and secured, engage the chain stopper to take the load off the windlass.

6.3 Manual Emergency Recovery

In case of power failure or malfunction, the windlass is equipped with a manual emergency recovery system. Use the provided wrench to operate the clutch and manually retrieve or deploy the anchor chain.
