General Pump ZK1 Flow Sensitive Unloader Valve (Model 758-135) Instruction Manual

Model: 758-135 | Brand: General Pump

Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and efficient installation, operation, and maintenance of your General Pump ZK1 Flow Sensitive Unloader Valve, Model 758-135. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the product to ensure proper function and to prevent damage or injury.

The General Pump ZK1 is a flow-sensitive unloader valve designed for pressure washer systems, capable of handling flow rates from 2 to 10 GPM and maximum pressures up to 3600 PSI. It is constructed from durable stainless steel.

Important Safety Information

Always observe safety precautions when working with high-pressure equipment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious injury or property damage.

  • Ensure all connections are secure and leak-free before operating the system.
  • Do not exceed the maximum rated pressure or flow for this unloader valve.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including eye protection, when operating pressure washing equipment.
  • Depressurize the system before performing any maintenance or adjustments.

Setup and Installation

The ZK1 unloader valve is designed for integration into a pressure washer system. Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance and safety.

  1. Identify Connections: The valve has an inlet connection size of 2 inches and an outlet connection size of 1.5 inches. Both are National Pipe Tapered (NPT) type.
  2. Mounting: Securely mount the unloader valve in a location that allows for easy access and proper hose routing. Ensure it is protected from excessive vibration.
  3. Connect Inlet: Connect the high-pressure pump outlet to the 2-inch NPT inlet port of the unloader valve. Use appropriate thread sealant and ensure a tight, leak-free connection.
  4. Connect Outlet: Connect the high-pressure hose leading to the spray gun or other accessories to the 1.5-inch NPT outlet port. Again, use thread sealant and ensure a secure connection.
  5. Bypass Line: Connect a bypass line from the unloader valve's bypass port back to the water supply tank or pump inlet. This line allows water to recirculate when the spray gun is closed.
  6. Pressure Gauge (Optional but Recommended): Install a pressure gauge on the high-pressure side of the system to monitor operating pressure.

Operating Instructions

The ZK1 unloader valve is flow-sensitive, meaning it reacts to changes in water flow. When the spray gun is open, water flows through the valve to the gun. When the gun is closed, the valve diverts water to the bypass line, reducing pressure on the pump.

  1. Initial Startup: Ensure all connections are secure. Turn on the water supply to the pump. Start the pressure washer engine/motor.
  2. Adjusting Pressure: The unloader valve typically has an adjustment knob or bolt. Turn the adjustment clockwise to increase pressure and counter-clockwise to decrease pressure. Adjust while the system is running and the spray gun is open, observing the pressure gauge.
  3. Bypass Mode: When the spray gun trigger is released, the unloader valve will sense the cessation of flow and divert water through the bypass line. This reduces the load on the pump and maintains a low-pressure bypass flow.
  4. Resuming Operation: Squeezing the spray gun trigger will cause the unloader valve to redirect water back to the high-pressure outlet.

Important:

  • Do not operate the pump in bypass mode for extended periods without adequate cooling, as this can lead to overheating.
  • Always ensure the bypass line is clear and unobstructed.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable performance of your unloader valve.

  • Inspect for Leaks: Periodically check all connections and the valve body for any signs of leaks. Tighten connections or replace seals as necessary.
  • Check for Obstructions: Ensure the bypass port and internal components are free from debris or mineral buildup.
  • Seal Replacement: Over time, internal seals and O-rings may wear out. If the valve is not holding pressure correctly or is leaking internally, a seal kit may be required. Consult a qualified technician for internal repairs.
  • Storage: If storing the pressure washer in freezing temperatures, ensure the unloader valve and entire system are drained of water or treated with an appropriate antifreeze solution to prevent damage.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
