Setup
1. Battery Installation
- Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the meter.
- Insert two CR2032 lithium coin cell batteries, ensuring the positive (+) side faces up.
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
2. Setting Date and Time
- With the meter off, press and hold the 'M' button until the setup screen appears.
- Use the 'C' button to adjust the year, month, day, hour, and minute.
- Press the 'M' button to confirm each setting and move to the next.
- Once all settings are confirmed, the meter will return to the main screen.
3. Preparing the Lancing Device
- Unscrew the lancing device cap.
- Insert a new sterile lancet firmly into the lancet holder.
- Twist off the protective cap from the lancet and save it for safe disposal.
- Replace the lancing device cap. Adjust the penetration depth by rotating the cap (start with a shallower setting and adjust as needed).
- Pull back the cocking mechanism until it clicks, indicating it is ready to use.
Operating the System
1. Performing a Blood Glucose Test
- Wash your hands with warm, soapy water and dry them thoroughly.
- Insert a FreeStyle Lite Test Strip into the test strip port of the meter. The meter will turn on automatically.
- When the blood drop symbol appears on the display, the meter is ready for a blood sample.
- Hold the lancing device firmly against the side of your fingertip and press the release button.
- Gently squeeze your finger to obtain a small drop of blood.
- Touch the tip of the test strip to the blood drop. The blood will be drawn into the strip.
- The meter will display your blood glucose result in approximately 5 seconds.
- Remove the used test strip and dispose of it properly.
2. Understanding Your Results
Your blood glucose results are displayed in mg/dL or mmol/L, depending on your meter's setting. Consult your healthcare professional to understand what your results mean for your individual diabetes management plan.
- High Glucose: If your result is higher than your target range, follow your healthcare professional's advice.
- Low Glucose: If your result is lower than your target range, follow your healthcare professional's advice for treating hypoglycemia.
3. Memory Function
The FreeStyle Freedom Lite meter automatically stores up to 400 blood glucose test results with date and time. To review past results:
- With the meter off, press the 'M' button briefly. The most recent result will be displayed.
- Press the 'M' button repeatedly to scroll through previous results.
- The meter will display 7, 14, and 30-day averages after the individual results.
Maintenance and Care
1. Cleaning the Meter
Clean the exterior of the meter as needed using a soft cloth dampened with water or a mild detergent. Do not immerse the meter in water or use harsh cleaning agents.
2. Storage
- Store the meter and test strips in their original containers in a cool, dry place.
- Avoid extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.
- Do not store test strips in the refrigerator.
- Ensure test strip vials are tightly closed after each use.
