- Large Lens: Offers a wide field of view for excellent visibility.
- Lightweight and Balanced Design: Enhances user comfort during extended wear.
- Silicone Faceseal: Contributes to enhanced comfort, durability, and ease of cleaning.
- Center Adapter: Directs exhaled breath downward, reducing fogging and improving communication.
- 3M Cool Flow Valve: Designed to make breathing easier, providing cool, dry comfort.
- Compatibility: Can be used in air-purifying and supplied air respirator modes with appropriate 3M filters and cartridges.
4. Setup and Preparation
- Inspect the Respirator: Before each use, carefully inspect the facepiece, straps, valves, and lens for any signs of damage, cracks, tears, or deterioration. Ensure all components are clean and in good working order.
- Select Appropriate Filters/Cartridges: Based on the specific hazards present in your work environment, select the correct 3M particulate filters or gas/vapor cartridges. Refer to 3M's selection guides and local regulations.
- Attach Filters/Cartridges: Align the chosen filters or cartridges with the attachment points on the facepiece. Twist or snap them into place according to the specific filter/cartridge instructions, ensuring a secure seal.
- Adjust Head Straps: Loosen all head straps before donning the respirator.
5. Operating Instructions (Donning and Fit Check)
- Donning the Respirator:
- Hold the respirator with one hand, placing your chin into the chin cup.
- Pull the head harness over your head, ensuring the straps are not twisted.
- Position the facepiece centrally on your face.
- Adjusting the Straps:
- Begin tightening the bottom straps first, pulling them evenly until the respirator feels secure but not uncomfortably tight.
- Next, tighten the top straps, again pulling evenly.
- Adjust the crown strap if necessary to achieve a comfortable and secure fit. The respirator should be centered on your face and not slip.
- Performing a Positive Pressure Seal Check:
- Gently exhale while covering the exhalation valve (the center adapter) with the palm of your hand.
- If the facepiece bulges slightly and no air leaks are detected around the edges of the facepiece, a positive seal has been achieved.
- Performing a Negative Pressure Seal Check:
- Cover the filter/cartridge inlets with the palms of your hands.
- Inhale gently. The facepiece should collapse slightly, and no air should leak around the edges of the facepiece.
- If air leaks are detected during either check, readjust the straps and repeat the seal checks. If a proper seal cannot be achieved, do not enter the contaminated area.
6. Maintenance and Storage
- Cleaning:
- After each use, remove filters/cartridges.
- Wash the facepiece in warm water with a mild detergent or a 3M respirator cleaning wipe.
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- Air dry in a clean, non-contaminated area.
- Do not use solvents or harsh cleaning agents.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect all components for wear, damage, or degradation. Replace any damaged parts immediately using genuine 3M replacement parts.
- Storage: Store the cleaned respirator and its components in a clean, dry, non-contaminated area, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and damaging chemicals. Use a sealed bag or container to protect it from dust and damage.
7. Troubleshooting
- Difficulty Breathing:
- Check if filters/cartridges are clogged or expired. Replace if necessary.
- Ensure the 3M Cool Flow Valve is not obstructed.
- Air Leakage Around Facepiece:
- Readjust head straps for a tighter, more even fit.
- Ensure no hair, clothing, or other obstructions are interfering with the faceseal.
- Verify the facepiece size is appropriate for the user.
- Inspect the faceseal for damage or deformation.
- Fogging of Lens:
- Ensure the respirator is properly sealed and the exhalation valve is functioning correctly.
- The center adapter directs exhaled breath downward to minimize fogging. If fogging persists, re-check fit.
- Discomfort:
- Adjust head straps to relieve pressure points.
- Ensure the respirator is correctly sized.
If problems persist or you suspect the respirator is not providing adequate protection, immediately leave the contaminated area and consult a safety professional.
