5. Setup
5.1 Placement
Proper placement is crucial for optimal sound performance and safety.
- Stable Surface: Place the subwoofer on a flat, stable, and level surface capable of supporting its significant weight (approximately 120 lbs).
- Ventilation: Ensure adequate space around the rear amplifier panel for proper ventilation to prevent overheating. Do not block ventilation openings.
- Room Acoustics: Experiment with placement within the room to achieve the best bass response. Corner placement often enhances bass, but can also lead to muddiness.
- Pole Mount: If using the integrated pole mount for a satellite speaker, ensure the pole and speaker are securely seated and stable.
5.2 Connections
Always ensure the subwoofer is powered off before making any connections.
- Audio Input (XLR): Connect your audio source (e.g., mixer, audio interface) to the XLR input(s) on the rear panel using high-quality XLR cables. The Sub 8006-AS supports both stereo and mono input configurations.
- Audio Output (XLR): Use the XLR output(s) to send the processed audio signal to full-range speakers or other subwoofers.
- Power Connection (Powercon): Connect the provided Powercon power cable to the Powercon inlet on the rear panel, then plug the other end into a grounded AC power outlet. Ensure the power source matches the voltage requirements specified on the unit.
- Bluetooth (Optional): For wireless audio streaming, activate Bluetooth on your source device and pair it with the Sub 8006-AS. Refer to the operating section for detailed Bluetooth pairing instructions.
5.3 Initial Power On
Once all connections are secure:
- Ensure the volume/gain control on the subwoofer is set to its minimum position.
- Power on your audio source devices first.
- Flip the power switch on the RCF Sub 8006-AS to the "ON" position.
- Slowly increase the volume/gain on the subwoofer to the desired listening level.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Onboard Controls
The rear panel features various controls to fine-tune the subwoofer's performance. (Refer to Figure 4.3 for visual reference).
- Gain/Volume: Adjusts the overall output level of the subwoofer.
- Crossover Frequency: Sets the upper frequency limit for the subwoofer, determining where it hands off to full-range speakers.
- Phase Switch: Allows you to invert the phase of the subwoofer's output (0° or 180°) to ensure proper alignment with other speakers in your system.
- EQ Presets/Modes: Some models may include preset EQ settings for different applications (e.g., "Deep," "Punch," "Live"). Consult the specific model's detailed manual for available options.
6.2 Bluetooth Connectivity
To connect a Bluetooth device:
- Ensure the subwoofer is powered on.
- Activate Bluetooth on your source device (smartphone, tablet, etc.).
- Search for available Bluetooth devices. The subwoofer should appear as "RCF Sub 8006-AS" or similar.
- Select the subwoofer to pair. A confirmation sound or indicator light may signal a successful connection.
- Once paired, you can stream audio wirelessly to the subwoofer.
Note: Bluetooth is primarily for convenience and may not be suitable for critical professional audio applications where wired connections are preferred for stability and audio quality.
7. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Disconnect the power before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the exterior surfaces. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or waxes.
- Ventilation: Regularly check that the ventilation openings on the amplifier panel are free from dust and debris. Use a soft brush or compressed air to clear them if necessary.
- Storage: If storing the subwoofer for an extended period, ensure it is in a dry, temperature-controlled environment, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Cover the unit to protect it from dust.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect power cables and audio cables for any signs of damage. Replace damaged cables immediately.
