  • Screw Kit

Setup and Installation

Safety Precautions:

  • Ensure proper grounding to prevent electrical hazards.
  • Do not block ventilation openings.
  • Use only the power adapter supplied with the device.
  • Avoid placing the switch in direct sunlight or near heat sources.

Rack Mounting (Optional):

  1. Attach the two mounting brackets to the sides of the switch using the provided screws.
  2. Secure the switch into a standard 19-inch equipment rack using appropriate rack screws (not included).

Connecting the Switch:

  1. Power Connection: Connect the power adapter to the switch's power input and then to a suitable power outlet.
  2. Network Devices: Connect your network devices (e.g., computers, IP cameras, wireless access points) to the RJ45 ports on the front panel using standard Ethernet cables.
  3. Uplink Connection: For connecting to a core network or another switch, use the SFP uplink ports with appropriate SFP transceivers and fiber optic cables.
  4. Console Connection: For initial configuration or advanced management, connect a console cable from your computer to the switch's console port.

Operating the Switch

Initial Power-Up:

Once connected to power, the switch will automatically power on. Observe the LED indicators on the front panel. The Power LED should illuminate, and port LEDs will indicate link status and activity.

Management Access:

  • Web Interface: Access the switch's web-based management interface by entering its IP address into a web browser. The default IP address can typically be found in the Quick Installation Guide or by using a discovery tool.
  • Command Line Interface (CLI): Connect via the console port using a terminal emulator (e.g., PuTTY, Tera Term) with the specified serial port settings (baud rate, data bits, parity, stop bits, flow control).
  • SNMP: The switch supports SNMP v1/v2c/v3 for network management system integration.

PoE Functionality:

The ECS2100-28PP provides Power over Ethernet on its RJ45 ports. Connected PoE-compatible devices will automatically receive power from the switch, simplifying deployment by eliminating the need for separate power outlets for each device.

For high-power PoE demands, external power accessories like the PS3000 Power Shelf or EPS460W External Power Supply can be integrated to extend the total PoE power budget to 740W.

Maintenance

  • Firmware Updates: Regularly check the Edgecore Networks website for firmware updates to ensure optimal performance, security, and access to new features.
  • Cleaning: Keep the switch free from dust and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners.
  • Environmental Conditions: Ensure the operating environment remains within the specified temperature and humidity ranges to prevent damage.
  • Configuration Backup: Periodically back up your switch configuration to an external device to facilitate quick recovery in case of an issue.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues and Solutions:

  • No Power:
    • Verify the power cable is securely connected to both the switch and the power outlet.
    • Check if the power outlet is functional.
    • Ensure the power adapter is the correct one supplied with the switch.
  • No Link on Port:
    • Check the Ethernet cable connection at both ends.
    • Ensure the connected device is powered on and functioning correctly.
    • Try a different port on the switch or a different cable.
  • PoE Device Not Powering On:
    • Confirm the connected device is PoE-compatible.
    • Check the PoE status LED for the specific port.
    • Ensure the total PoE power budget of the switch is not exceeded. Consider adding an external power supply if needed.
  • Cannot Access Web Interface:
    • Verify your computer's IP address is in the same subnet as the switch's default IP address.
    • Ensure there are no IP address conflicts on the network.
    • Try accessing via the console port to check network settings.
