Setup and Installation
This section outlines the steps for installing the KwiKool CK-120 Ceiling Kit with your KwiKool portable air conditioner.
- Prepare the Ceiling: Identify two adjacent 24" x 24" ceiling tiles in your drop ceiling grid where the exhaust will be vented. Carefully remove these existing tiles.
- Install Replacement Tiles: Place the two (2) 24" x 24" white replacement ceiling tiles from the kit into the empty grid spaces. Ensure they are securely seated.
- Attach Flanges: Secure one flange to the opening on each replacement ceiling tile using the provided screws. Ensure a tight seal to prevent air leakage.
- Connect Flexible Ducts: Attach one end of each 8-foot flexible duct to a flange on the ceiling tile. Use the duct clamps to secure the connection firmly.
- Connect to Air Conditioner: Connect the other end of each flexible duct to the exhaust ports of your KwiKool KIB12023-2 or KIB12043-2 portable air conditioner. Use the remaining duct clamps to ensure secure connections.
- Route Ducts: Route the flexible ducts through the plenum space above the drop ceiling to an appropriate exhaust point, ensuring there are no sharp bends or kinks that could restrict airflow.
- Verify Connections: Double-check all connections for tightness and ensure that the ducts are not obstructed.
Note: For optimal performance, ensure the exhaust ducts are as straight and short as possible. Avoid routing ducts through unconditioned spaces if possible, or insulate them if necessary.
Operating Instructions
The KwiKool CK-120 Ceiling Kit is a passive accessory. Once installed, its operation is integrated with the portable air conditioner. Refer to your KwiKool KIB12023-2 or KIB12043-2 air conditioner's instruction manual for specific operating procedures.
Ensure that the air conditioner's exhaust fans are functioning correctly to push hot air through the installed ceiling kit and out of the conditioned space.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance of the ceiling kit ensures efficient operation and longevity.
- Duct Inspection: Periodically inspect the flexible ducts for any signs of damage, tears, or blockages. Ensure all duct clamps remain tight.
- Ceiling Tile Inspection: Check the replacement ceiling tiles for any damage or signs of wear. Ensure they remain securely in the grid.
- Cleaning: If dust or debris accumulates on the ceiling tiles or within the accessible parts of the ducts, gently clean them with a soft cloth or vacuum cleaner.
- Airflow Check: Occasionally verify that hot air is being effectively exhausted through the ceiling kit when the air conditioner is operating.
Troubleshooting
If you experience issues related to the ceiling kit, consider the following:
- Poor Exhaust Airflow:
- Check for kinks or obstructions in the flexible ducts.
- Ensure all duct connections are secure and airtight.
- Verify that the air conditioner's exhaust fan is operating correctly (refer to the air conditioner's manual).
- Ceiling Tile Instability:
- Ensure the replacement tiles are properly seated in the ceiling grid.
- Check that the flanges are securely attached to the tiles.
- Excessive Noise:
- Ensure ducts are not vibrating against ceiling grid components. Adjust routing if necessary.
- Verify duct clamps are tight to prevent rattling.
For issues related to the portable air conditioner itself, consult the air conditioner's specific user manual.
