Horntools Hercules Mobile Compressor User Manual

Model: HCOMP012-VAR

1. Introduction

The Horntools Hercules mobile compressor is a robust, portable air compressor designed for inflating tires, inflatable boats, and various other inflatable items. It is ideal for use in off-road, camping, and recreational situations where a reliable air supply is needed. This powerful unit features a two-cylinder design, delivering 150 liters of air per minute at a maximum pressure of 8 bar (120 PSI).

Important Note: This compressor is not designed for continuous industrial use or for operating pneumatic tools such as impact wrenches or pneumatic guns.

2. Safety Instructions

  • Always ensure the compressor is connected to a stable 12-volt power source with sufficient current capacity.
  • Do not operate the compressor for more than 15 minutes continuously at 4 bar. Allow adequate rest time (85 minutes) between cycles to prevent overheating.
  • Never connect pneumatic tools to this compressor.
  • Keep the compressor away from water, moisture, and flammable materials.
  • Ensure proper ventilation during operation to dissipate heat.
  • Do not touch hot surfaces of the compressor during or immediately after operation.
  • Always wear appropriate eye protection when operating the compressor.
  • Keep children and pets away from the operating compressor.
  • Before disconnecting, ensure the compressor is switched off and pressure is released.

3. Package Contents

Verify that all items are present in your package:

  • Horntools Hercules Mobile Compressor Unit
  • 2.4 meter power cable with battery clamps
  • Carrying bag
  • 7-meter pressure hose with integrated manometer
  • Various inflation nozzles/attachments

4. Setup

  1. Positioning the Compressor: Place the compressor on a stable, flat surface in a well-ventilated area.
  2. Connecting Power: Connect the red battery clamp of the 2.4-meter power cable to the positive (+) terminal of your 12-volt vehicle battery. Connect the black battery clamp to the negative (-) terminal. Ensure a secure connection.
  3. Attaching the Air Hose: Connect the 7-meter pressure hose to the compressor's air outlet. Ensure it is securely fastened to prevent air leaks.
  4. Selecting Nozzle: Choose the appropriate inflation nozzle from the provided attachments for the item you wish to inflate. Attach it to the end of the pressure hose.

5. Operating Instructions

  1. Prepare for Inflation: Ensure the compressor is set up as described in Section 4. Connect the chosen nozzle to the item you wish to inflate.
  2. Start Compressor: Locate the ON/OFF switch on the compressor unit and switch it to the 'ON' position. The compressor will begin to operate.
  3. Monitor Pressure: Continuously monitor the pressure gauge (manometer) on the pressure hose. Inflate the item to its recommended pressure level.
  4. Stop Compressor: Once the desired pressure is reached, switch the compressor to the 'OFF' position.
  5. Disconnect: Disconnect the nozzle from the inflated item, then disconnect the air hose from the compressor. Finally, disconnect the power clamps from the battery.

Duty Cycle: The compressor has a duty cycle of 15% at 25°C and 4 bar. This means it can operate for 15 minutes, followed by an 85-minute rest period. Adhering to this duty cycle is crucial for the longevity of the compressor.

Practical Performance Data:

  • Time to inflate 1 tire from 0 to 3.5 bar: Approximately 3 minutes.
  • Time to inflate 1 tire from 1.5 to 3.5 bar: Approximately 2 minutes 22 seconds.
  • Time to inflate 4 tires from 1.5 to 3.5 bar: Approximately 9 minutes 30 seconds.
  • Temperature after inflating 1 tire (0-3.5 bar): 35°C.
  • Temperature after inflating 4 tires: 65°C.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Regularly wipe down the compressor unit with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Storage: Store the compressor and its accessories in the provided carrying bag in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Hose and Cable Inspection: Periodically inspect the air hose and power cable for any signs of wear, cracks, or damage. Replace if necessary.
  • Connections: Ensure all connections (hose, power clamps) are clean and free from corrosion.

7. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Compressor does not turn on. No power, loose connection, faulty switch. Check battery clamp connections. Ensure battery has sufficient charge. Verify switch is in 'ON' position.
Low airflow or pressure. Air leak in hose/connections, clogged filter (if applicable), compressor overheating. Check all hose connections for leaks. Ensure nozzle is properly attached. Allow compressor to cool down if it has been running for an extended period.
Compressor overheats and shuts off. Exceeded duty cycle, poor ventilation. Allow the compressor to cool down completely (at least 85 minutes). Ensure it is operating in a well-ventilated area. Adhere to the specified duty cycle.
