3. Installation Guide

This section provides detailed steps for installing your Westin 31-5605 E-Series Bull Bar. Refer to the accompanying video for visual guidance.

Video: Detailed installation process for a bull bar on a 2005-2015 Toyota Tacoma. This video demonstrates the steps for removing factory components, installing mounting brackets, and securing the bull bar.

Step-by-Step Installation:

  1. Prepare the Vehicle: Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake. For easier access, you may lift the front of the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  2. Remove Factory Components (Driver's Side): Locate the 14mm nuts holding the front bumper frame on the driver's side. Completely undo these two nuts.
  3. Install Driver Side Mounting Bracket: Take the driver side mounting bracket. Place the two studs right through the upper through-hole of the bracket. Apply Loctite red to the nuts and reinstall them, but only finger-tight for now.
  4. Assemble Lower Hardware Stack (Driver's Side): For the lower hole, assemble the hardware stack as follows: one 16mm bolt, two washers, one large washer, one lock washer, and one 17mm nut.
  5. Install Lower Hardware (Driver's Side): Place one of the large washers between the vehicle frame and the bracket. Feed the assembled bolt through the bracket and frame. On the opposite side, install the really large washer, then the smaller washer, the lock washer, and finally the nut. Keep these finger-tight.
  6. Repeat for Passenger Side: Follow steps 2-5 for the passenger side of the vehicle. The process is identical.
  7. Prepare Bull Bar for Mounting: Take the driver side and passenger side connecting brackets. Install them onto the bull bar using the appropriate hardware, finger-tight only.
  8. Mount Bull Bar to Vehicle: Carefully lift the bull bar into position. Place the hardware stack onto the rear end of the brackets for both the passenger and driver sides, keeping them finger-tight.
  9. Adjust and Tighten: Once the bull bar is in place, use your shoulder or a helper to push the bull bar to the desired angle and alignment. Then, tighten down the four nuts and bolts (16mm and 17mm) that secure the bull bar to the connecting brackets.
  10. Final Tightening: Finally, tighten down the 19mm bolts that hold the bull bar to the connecting brackets, and all the hardware (16mm and 17mm) that connects the brackets to the vehicle frame. Ensure all fasteners are securely tightened according to the vehicle's and product's torque specifications.

4. Operating Instructions

The Westin E-Series Bull Bar is primarily a protective and aesthetic accessory. It features integrated mounting points for auxiliary lights. To operate any installed auxiliary lights, refer to the specific instructions provided with your lighting products.

Auxiliary Light Installation:

The bull bar includes two pre-drilled mounting points on the top of the center bar for auxiliary lights up to 6 inches in diameter. Ensure any lights installed are properly wired and conform to local regulations.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and appearance of your Westin E-Series Bull Bar, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Regular Cleaning: Wash the bull bar regularly with mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that can damage the powder-coated finish.
  • Inspect Fasteners: Periodically check all nuts and bolts to ensure they remain tight. Vibrations from driving can sometimes loosen fasteners over time.
  • Check for Damage: Inspect the bull bar for any signs of damage, such as chips in the coating, dents, or bends. Address any damage promptly to prevent further deterioration.
  • Touch-Up Paint: If the powder coating gets chipped, use a suitable touch-up paint to prevent rust and maintain the finish.

6. Troubleshooting

Most issues with the bull bar are related to installation. If you encounter problems, review the installation steps carefully.

  • Loose Fit/Rattling: Ensure all mounting hardware is tightened to the correct specifications. Recheck the 14mm nuts on the bumper frame and all 16mm, 17mm, and 19mm fasteners.
  • Misalignment: If the bull bar appears crooked, loosen the fasteners slightly, adjust the position, and then re-tighten. The slotted holes in the brackets allow for minor adjustments.
  • Difficulty Installing: Double-check that you have the correct model for your vehicle (2005-2015 Toyota Tacoma). Ensure all factory components are removed as instructed and that the mounting brackets are correctly oriented.
