3. Setup
3.1. Charging Your SPRK+
Before first use, fully charge your Sphero SPRK+. Place the SPRK+ on its inductive charging base. Connect the USB charging cable from the base to a USB power source (e.g., computer USB port, USB wall adapter). The SPRK+ will illuminate to indicate charging. A full charge typically takes approximately 3 hours and provides about 1 hour of play time.
3.2. Downloading the App
The Sphero SPRK+ is controlled via mobile applications. Download the official Sphero Edu app from your device's app store (available on iOS, Android, Kindle, Mac, Windows, and Chrome). For basic driving and games, you can also use the Sphero Play app.
3.3. Connecting to Your Device
Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device or computer. Open the Sphero Edu app. The app will guide you through the connection process. Typically, you will select your SPRK+ from a list of nearby Sphero devices. Once connected, the SPRK+ will be ready for use.

4.2. Coding with Sphero Edu
The Sphero Edu app is the primary platform for programming your SPRK+. It offers multiple programming modes:
- Draw: Trace a path on your screen, and SPRK+ will follow it.
- Blocks: Drag and drop visual programming blocks (based on Scratch) to create complex programs. This is ideal for beginners.
- Text (JavaScript): For advanced users, write JavaScript code to control SPRK+ directly.
The app allows you to control SPRK+'s movement, LED lights, and utilize its internal sensors (gyroscope, accelerometer, motor encoders) to create interactive programs and experiments.

5. Maintenance
5.1. Cleaning
To clean your Sphero SPRK+, wipe its exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, as these may damage the shell. Ensure the charging port area on the inductive base is kept clean and free of debris.
5.2. Battery Care
For optimal battery life, avoid fully discharging the SPRK+ frequently. Store the device in a cool, dry place when not in use. If storing for an extended period, ensure it has at least a partial charge.
5.3. Waterproof Shell
The Sphero SPRK+ features a waterproof shell, allowing it to be used in water. After water play, rinse the robot with fresh water and dry it thoroughly before placing it back on the charging base.

6. Troubleshooting
6.1. Connection Issues
- SPRK+ not appearing in app: Ensure Bluetooth is on and the SPRK+ is charged and awake (it will light up when picked up or placed on the charger). Try restarting the app or your device.
- Connection drops frequently: Ensure your device is within Bluetooth range (typically up to 10 meters/30 feet) and there are no major obstructions.
6.2. Movement Problems
- SPRK+ not moving as expected: Check the battery level. Ensure the orientation of the SPRK+ is correctly set in the app (the blue tail light should face you when calibrating).
- Inaccurate movement: Calibrate the SPRK+ regularly within the app, especially after picking it up or if it has been bumped.
6.3. Charging Problems
- SPRK+ not charging: Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the charging base and a working power source. Verify the SPRK+ is correctly seated on the inductive charging base. Try a different USB port or power adapter.
