Setup and Assembly

The RYOBI P4360 pole saw comes in multiple sections for easy storage and transport. Assembly involves connecting these sections and preparing the cutting chain.

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Verify that all parts are present according to the packing list.
  2. Attaching the Extension Pole (Optional):
    • Align the male end of the extension pole with the female receptacle on the main pole saw unit.
    • Push the sections together until the spring-loaded button snaps into place, securing the connection.
    • Ensure the connection is firm and there is no wobble.
  3. Installing the Battery:
    • Ensure the pole saw is turned off and the trigger is locked.
    • Slide a charged RYOBI ONE+ 18V battery into the battery port on the handle until it clicks securely into place.
    • To remove, press the battery release latch and slide the battery out.
  4. Chain and Bar Preparation:
    • Refer to the detailed instructions in the included manual for proper chain installation and tensioning. Incorrect tension can lead to poor cutting performance or chain derailment.
    • Fill the chain oil reservoir with appropriate bar and chain oil. Check oil levels regularly during operation.

Operating Instructions

Before each use, inspect the pole saw for any damage, loose parts, or proper chain tension. Ensure the chain is adequately lubricated.

  1. Starting the Pole Saw:
    • Grip the handle firmly with both hands.
    • Depress the safety lock-out button, then squeeze the trigger to start the motor.
    • Release the trigger to stop the motor.
  2. Cutting Techniques:
    • Planning the Cut: Identify the branch to be cut and plan the fall direction. Clear the area below.
    • Undercutting: For larger branches, make a small undercut on the underside of the branch first to prevent bark stripping.
    • Top Cut: Position the saw on top of the branch, slightly further out from the undercut. Allow the saw to cut through the branch with minimal pressure. Let the saw's weight do the work.
    • Avoid Pinching: Be aware of the branch's weight and how it might pinch the saw blade. Reposition if necessary.
    • Maintain Balance: Keep a firm grip and maintain balance throughout the cutting process. Avoid overreaching.
  3. Working at Height:
    • Always work from a stable surface. Do not use the pole saw while standing on a ladder unless specifically designed for such use and proper safety precautions are taken.
    • Be mindful of falling branches and debris.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your pole saw.

  • Chain Lubrication: Regularly check and refill the chain oil reservoir. Use only recommended bar and chain oil.
  • Chain Sharpening: A dull chain reduces cutting efficiency and increases strain on the motor. Sharpen the chain regularly or replace it when necessary. Refer to the specific instructions for your chain type.
  • Chain Tension: Check chain tension before each use and adjust as needed. The chain should be snug but still able to be pulled freely around the bar by hand.
  • Cleaning: After each use, clean the saw head, bar, and chain to remove sawdust, sap, and debris. Use a stiff brush and mild detergent if necessary. Ensure the battery port is free of debris.
  • Storage: Store the pole saw in a dry, secure location out of reach of children. Remove the battery before storing. If storing for extended periods, ensure the chain is clean and lightly oiled.
