3.2 Mounting the Latch and Striker
- Determine Mounting Position: Position the latch on the gate and the striker on the gate post, ensuring the top of the latch is at a height inaccessible to young children, typically above 1500mm (59 inches) from ground level.
- Mark Drill Holes: Use the provided templates or the latch components themselves to mark the precise drilling locations for both the latch and the striker.
- Drill Pilot Holes: Carefully drill pilot holes at the marked locations.
- Attach Latch and Striker: Securely fasten the latch to the gate and the striker to the gate post using the appropriate screws.
- Adjust Alignment: Utilize the improved vertical and horizontal adjustment features to ensure perfect alignment between the latch and the striker. The visible alignment indicators will assist in achieving optimal engagement. The latch should engage smoothly and securely without binding.
3.3 Installation Video Guide
Video 1: This video demonstrates the functionality and installation process of the Magna Latch Pool Gate Lock. It highlights the child-proof safety features and provides a visual guide to how the latch operates and secures a gate.
4. Operating Instructions
The MagnaLatch Series 3 is designed for simple operation by adults while maintaining high child safety standards.
- To Open the Gate: Reach over the top of the gate to access the release knob. Lift the knob firmly to disengage the magnetic latch. Pull the gate open.
- To Close the Gate: Simply push the gate shut. The magnetic mechanism will automatically engage, securing the gate.
- Locking the Latch: Insert the key into the key cylinder (refer to Figure 2) and turn it to the locked position. The lock/unlock indicator will change to show the locked status. Remove the key.
- Unlocking the Latch: Insert the key and turn it to the unlocked position. The lock/unlock indicator will change to show the unlocked status. Remove the key.
Important Safety Note: Always ensure the gate latches automatically and securely after each use. Keep the latch locked when the pool area is not supervised.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance will ensure the longevity and reliable performance of your MagnaLatch.
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the latch and striker with a soft cloth and mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Lubrication: The internal mechanism is self-lubricating. Do not apply oil or grease to the latch mechanism or key cylinder, as this can attract dirt and impair function.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect the latch for any signs of wear, damage, or misalignment. Check that all screws are tight and that the gate closes and latches freely.
- Functionality Test: Routinely test the latch's automatic closing and locking function to ensure it operates correctly.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your MagnaLatch, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- Latch Not Engaging:
- Check for proper vertical and horizontal alignment between the latch and striker. Adjust as necessary using the built-in adjustment features.
- Ensure the gate hinges are not sagging, causing misalignment.
- Verify that no debris is obstructing the latching mechanism.
- Gate Not Closing Automatically:
- Confirm that the gate hinges are self-closing and functioning correctly. The MagnaLatch relies on a self-closing gate.
- Check for any obstructions preventing the gate from swinging freely.
- Key Not Turning/Stuck:
- Ensure the key is fully inserted.
- Do not force the key. If the lock is stiff, a small amount of graphite lubricant (not oil) can be applied to the key and worked into the cylinder.
