Instruction Manual

Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Cisco AIR-CAP3702I-B-K9 Aironet 3700 Series Access Point. This device is an 802.11ac controller-based access point designed for high-performance wireless connectivity in enterprise environments.

Setup

1. Physical Installation

The Cisco Aironet 3700 Series Access Point is designed for indoor deployment. Ensure the chosen location provides optimal wireless coverage and is free from obstructions.

  • Mounting: The access point can be mounted on a ceiling, wall, or placed on a flat surface. Use appropriate mounting hardware (not always included) for secure installation.
  • Cable Connection: Connect an Ethernet cable from your network switch (preferably PoE-enabled) to the Ethernet port on the access point. This cable provides both data connectivity and power if using Power over Ethernet (PoE).

2. Powering On

If using PoE, the access point will power on automatically once connected to a PoE-enabled switch. If not using PoE, connect a compatible power adapter (sold separately) to the DC power input port.

3. Initial Configuration

This access point is designed to operate in conjunction with a Cisco Wireless LAN Controller (WLC). Upon powering on, the access point will attempt to discover and join a WLC on your network. Refer to your Cisco WLC documentation for detailed instructions on access point discovery, registration, and configuration.

  • Ensure the WLC is properly configured and reachable by the access point.
  • The access point will download its configuration and firmware from the WLC.

Operating

Basic Functionality

Once successfully joined to a Wireless LAN Controller and configured, the access point will begin broadcasting wireless networks (SSIDs) as defined by the WLC. Client devices can then connect to these networks.

LED Indicators

The access point features an LED indicator that provides status information. Consult the Cisco Aironet 3700 Series documentation for a complete list of LED patterns and their meanings. Common states include:

  • Solid Green: Normal operation, associated with a WLC.
  • Flashing Green: Booting up or attempting to join a WLC.
  • Solid Amber: Error condition or not associated with a WLC.
  • Off: No power.

Maintenance

Firmware Updates

Firmware updates for the access point are managed and pushed by the Cisco Wireless LAN Controller. Ensure your WLC is running the latest recommended software version to maintain optimal performance and security for your access points.

Cleaning

To clean the exterior of the access point, use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol sprays directly on the device. Ensure the device is powered off before cleaning.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your access point, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Power: Check the Ethernet cable connection for PoE, or ensure the power adapter (if used) is securely connected and plugged into a working outlet. Verify the LED indicator status.
  • No Connectivity/Not Joining WLC:
    • Confirm the Ethernet cable is functional and connected to an active network port.
    • Verify that the network switch port is configured correctly for PoE (if applicable) and data.
    • Ensure the Wireless LAN Controller is operational and reachable from the access point's network segment.
    • Check for any firewall rules that might be blocking communication between the AP and WLC.
  • Poor Wireless Performance:
    • Review the access point's placement for optimal coverage and minimal interference.
    • Consult the WLC for channel and power settings.
    • Ensure client devices are using compatible wireless standards.

For advanced troubleshooting, refer to the comprehensive documentation available on the Cisco support website or contact Cisco technical support.
