1. Introduction
This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and effective use of the INSIZE 6891-1 Magnetic V-Block Set. Please read this manual thoroughly before operation and retain it for future reference.
The INSIZE 6891-1 is a pair of precision magnetic V-blocks designed for holding cylindrical workpieces during inspection, machining, or layout operations. Each V-block features a switchable magnetic base for secure clamping.
2. Safety Information
- Always ensure the magnetic switch is in the "OFF" position before positioning or removing workpieces.
- Turn the magnetic switch to the "ON" position only after the workpiece is correctly seated in the V-groove.
- Keep V-blocks away from sensitive electronic devices, magnetic storage media, and medical implants (e.g., pacemakers) when the magnet is active.
- Handle with care to prevent dropping, which can damage the internal magnetic mechanism or the V-block's precision surfaces.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with machinery or tools.
- Do not attempt to disassemble the V-blocks. Refer servicing to qualified personnel.
3. Product Components
The INSIZE 6891-1 set includes two magnetic V-blocks. Each V-block consists of:
- Precision Ground Body: The main structure with V-grooves.
- Switchable Magnetic Base: Located at the bottom, activated by a rotary knob.
- Rotary Knob: Used to switch the magnet "ON" or "OFF".

Figure 1: The INSIZE 6891-1 Magnetic V-Block Set. This image displays two identical magnetic V-blocks, each featuring a V-shaped groove on top for holding cylindrical workpieces and a rotary knob on the front face to engage or disengage the magnetic base. The knob is clearly marked with "ON" and "OFF" positions and the INSIZE logo.
4. Setup
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the V-blocks from their packaging. Inspect for any signs of damage during transit.
- Cleaning: Before first use, wipe down the V-blocks with a clean, dry cloth to remove any protective oils or debris. Ensure the precision surfaces are free of contaminants.
- Placement: Place the V-blocks on a clean, flat, and stable surface. Ensure the surface is ferromagnetic if you intend to use the magnetic base for securing the V-blocks themselves.
5. Operating Instructions
- Deactivate Magnet: Ensure the rotary knob on each V-block is turned to the "OFF" position. This disengages the magnetic force.
- Position Workpiece: Carefully place the cylindrical workpiece into the V-groove of the V-blocks. For longer workpieces, use both V-blocks to provide stable support. Ensure the workpiece is seated securely and evenly.
- Activate Magnet: Once the workpiece is correctly positioned, turn the rotary knob on each V-block clockwise to the "ON" position. You will feel a distinct click or resistance as the magnet engages. This will secure the workpiece firmly in place and, if on a ferromagnetic surface, also secure the V-blocks.
- Verification: Gently attempt to move the workpiece to confirm it is securely held.
- Deactivate and Remove: To remove the workpiece, first turn the rotary knob on each V-block counter-clockwise to the "OFF" position. Once the magnetic force is disengaged, carefully lift the workpiece from the V-grooves.
Note: The magnetic force is strong. Always ensure the magnet is "OFF" before attempting to adjust or remove the workpiece to prevent injury or damage.
6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Regularly clean the V-blocks, especially the V-grooves and magnetic surfaces, with a soft, lint-free cloth. Remove any metal chips, dust, or debris that could affect precision or magnetic performance.
- Storage: Store the V-blocks in a clean, dry environment when not in use. It is recommended to store them with the magnet in the "OFF" position to prevent accidental magnetization of other tools or surfaces.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect the V-blocks for any signs of wear, damage, or corrosion. Ensure the rotary knob operates smoothly and engages/disengages the magnet effectively.
- Lubrication: No internal lubrication is typically required for the magnetic mechanism. Avoid applying oils or greases to the precision surfaces unless specifically recommended by the manufacturer for a particular application.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Workpiece not held securely. | Magnet not fully engaged ("ON" position). V-groove or workpiece surface is dirty. Workpiece material is non-ferromagnetic. | Ensure the rotary knob is fully turned to "ON". Clean the V-groove and workpiece surface thoroughly. Magnetic V-blocks only work with ferromagnetic materials (e.g., steel, iron). |
| Difficulty turning the rotary knob. | Debris obstructing the mechanism. Internal damage. | Inspect for visible debris and remove. Do not force the knob. If the issue persists, contact INSIZE support. |
| V-block not adhering to workbench. | Workbench surface is non-ferromagnetic. Magnet not fully engaged ("ON" position). Bottom surface is dirty. | Ensure the workbench surface is made of a ferromagnetic material. Confirm the rotary knob is fully turned to "ON". Clean the bottom magnetic surface of the V-block. |
