Setup Instructions
- Wash Hands: Before handling the filter, wash your hands thoroughly.
-
Prepare Filter: Flush the new Brita Standard Water Filter under cold tap water for 15 seconds. This helps remove any loose carbon dust.

Insert Filter: Insert the prepared filter firmly into the designated opening in the water filter reservoir. Ensure it is seated securely to prevent unfiltered water from passing through.

- Fill Pitcher: Add cold tap water to the reservoir. The water will slowly filter into the main pitcher body.
- Discard First Pitchers: The first three pitchers of filtered water may contain harmless carbon dust. It is recommended to use this water for plants or discard it. After the third pitcher, the water is ready for consumption.
Operation
Refilling the Pitcher
To refill, simply open the flip-top lid and pour cold tap water into the reservoir. The water will filter through automatically. Do not overfill the reservoir beyond the indicated maximum fill line.
Electronic Filter Indicator
The lid features an electronic filter indicator that tracks filter life. It will notify you when it's time to replace the filter. Press the 'Start' button on the indicator after installing a new filter to reset it. The indicator typically uses a series of lights or bars to show remaining filter life.
When the indicator shows that the filter life is depleted, it's time for a replacement.
Maintenance
Filter Replacement
For optimal performance and water quality, replace the Brita Standard Water Filter every 40 gallons or approximately every 2 months, whichever comes first. Follow the 'Setup Instructions' for installing a new filter.
Cleaning the Pitcher
The pitcher, lid, and reservoir (excluding the filter) can be hand-washed with mild detergent and warm water. Do not wash the electronic filter indicator in a dishwasher or submerge it in water. Rinse all components thoroughly before reassembly.
Troubleshooting
- Slow Filtration: If water filters slowly, ensure the filter is properly seated in the reservoir. If the filter is old, it may be clogged and require replacement.
- Carbon Dust in Water: It is normal to see small black flecks (carbon dust) in the first few pitchers of water after installing a new filter. This is harmless. Discard the first three pitchers as instructed in the setup guide.
- Electronic Indicator Not Working: Ensure the indicator is clean and dry. If it still doesn't work after pressing the reset button, contact Brita customer support.
