Installation
Proper installation ensures accurate readings and device longevity. Follow these steps carefully:
1. Mounting the Meter
The RL-TM003A offers two primary mounting options:
- Stick-on Mounting: Clean the desired mounting surface thoroughly. Remove the protective film from the included double-sided tape and firmly press the meter onto the surface.
- Screw-on Mounting: Use the provided screws and nuts to secure the meter to a suitable flat surface. Ensure the mounting holes align and the screws are tightened securely.
2. Connecting the Temperature Sensor
The temperature sensor must be correctly attached to the engine to measure temperature accurately. The specific method may vary depending on your engine type:
- Typically, the sensor is attached to a metal part of the engine that accurately reflects its operating temperature, such as a cylinder head bolt or a cooling line.
- Ensure the sensor makes good contact with the engine surface for optimal thermal transfer.
- Route the sensor cable away from moving parts and high-heat areas to prevent damage. Secure it with cable ties if necessary.

This image details both stick-on and screw-on mounting options for the meter, along with a visual guide for attaching the temperature sensor to an engine.

Operating Instructions
The RL-TM003A is designed for straightforward operation:
1. Power On/Off
The device is always on when the battery is installed. There is no manual power on/off button.
2. Real-Time Temperature Display
Once the temperature sensor is connected and the meter is powered, the current engine temperature will be displayed on the LCD screen. The backlight will activate automatically in low light or when a button is pressed.

The meter shows the current engine temperature on its green backlit LCD screen.
3. Viewing Maximum Temperature
Press the MENU button to cycle through display modes. One mode will show the maximum temperature recorded since the last reset. To reset the maximum temperature, press and hold the SET button while in the maximum temperature display mode.

The meter displays the highest engine temperature recorded since the last reset, indicated by 'MAX'.
4. Setting Over-Temperature Alert
To set the over-temperature alert value:
- Press the MENU button until you reach the alert setting mode (indicated by a flashing temperature value or alert icon).
- Use the SET button to adjust the temperature value. Each press will increment the value.
- Once the desired alert temperature is set, press MENU again to save and exit the setting mode.
When the engine temperature exceeds this set value, the meter will display an alert icon.

The meter indicates an over-temperature condition with a warning icon, alerting the user when the engine temperature exceeds a preset limit.
5. Switching Temperature Units (℃/℉)
To switch between Celsius (℃) and Fahrenheit (℉):
- With the meter displaying real-time temperature, press and hold both MENU and SET buttons simultaneously for a few seconds.
- The unit will change, and the display will update accordingly.
Maintenance
1. Battery Replacement
The RL-TM003A uses a replaceable CR2032 lithium-metal battery. When the battery icon indicates low power or the display becomes dim, replace the battery:
- Carefully remove the screws on the back cover of the meter.
- Gently open the back cover to access the battery compartment.
- Remove the old CR2032 battery.
- Insert a new CR2032 battery with the positive (+) side facing up.
- Replace the back cover and tighten the screws securely to maintain the waterproof seal.

This image shows the steps to replace the CR2032 battery, including removing the back cover and inserting a new battery.
2. Cleaning
Wipe the meter's exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they may damage the display or casing.
3. Waterproofing
The device has an IP67 waterproof rating. While it is protected against temporary immersion, avoid prolonged submersion or high-pressure water jets. Ensure the battery cover is securely fastened after replacement to maintain its waterproof integrity.

The meter is shown partially submerged in a water tank, demonstrating its IP67 waterproof and dustproof capabilities.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your RL-TM003A meter, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
