Introduction
The Runleader RL-HM026A is an inductive tachometer and hour meter designed to monitor the RPM and total running hours of various gasoline engines. This device helps users track engine performance and schedule maintenance effectively. It is suitable for a wide range of applications including ATVs, UTVs, motorcycles, outboards, snowmobiles, and other gasoline-powered equipment.
Product Features
- Real-time RPM Display: Shows current engine revolutions per minute.
- Total Hour (TOT) Accumulation: Records the total operating time of the engine.
- Resettable Job Timer: Tracks the duration of a single working period.
- SVC Maintenance Reminders: Two programmable timers for scheduled service intervals.
- Wide Engine Compatibility: Works with 2-stroke (1, 2, 3 cylinders) and 4-stroke (1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 12, 16 cylinders) gasoline engines.
- Waterproof Design: IP68 rated for strong water resistance.
- Easy Installation: Simple screw-on mounting and inductive signal pickup.
Setup
Mounting the Device
The RL-HM026A tachometer can be mounted using screws. Ensure a stable and secure location on your equipment. Screws are not included and must be prepared by the user.

Engine Signal Pickup
To receive engine RPM signals, wrap the signal wire around the spark plug wire of your engine. For optimal signal detection, wrap the wire approximately 5 times. Secure the wrapped wire with electrical tape or cable ties to prevent movement. The signal wire length is 1.75 meters (68.80 inches).

Engine Type Setting
After installation, it may be necessary to configure the tachometer for your specific engine type (e.g., 2-stroke, 4-stroke, number of cylinders). Refer to the included quick start guide for detailed instructions on how to access and adjust these settings using the 'SELECT' button.
Operating Instructions
RPM Display
When the engine is running, the device will display the real-time RPM. You can also view the maximum RPM value recorded since the engine started. Use the 'SELECT' button to cycle through display modes if available.

Total Hours (TOT)
The TOT function displays the total accumulated running hours of the engine. This value is non-resettable and continues to accumulate as long as the engine is operating. This is useful for tracking overall engine lifespan and major service intervals.
Job Timer
The Job Timer records the hours an engine runs during a single working period. This timer can be reset to zero as needed. To reset the Job Timer, press and hold the 'SELECT' button when the Job Timer is displayed.

Maintenance Reminders (SVC)
The device features two SVC timers (SVC1 and SVC2) that can be set to remind you of regular maintenance tasks. These timers help advise when service is due for different engine components. Consult the quick start guide for instructions on setting and adjusting these timers.

Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and accuracy of your Runleader RL-HM026A, perform the following maintenance:
- Cleaning: Periodically wipe the device with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and dirt. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- SVC Timers: Utilize the SVC maintenance reminders to schedule and perform regular engine service, such as oil changes or spark plug replacements, based on accumulated engine hours.
- Battery: The device contains an internal, non-replaceable battery. The lifespan of the battery is designed to last for many years under normal operating conditions.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your tachometer, consider the following:
- No RPM Reading: Ensure the signal wire is securely wrapped around the spark plug wire and that there are sufficient turns (typically 5-7 wraps). Check for any damage to the signal wire.
- Inaccurate Readings: Verify that the correct engine type setting (2-stroke/4-stroke, number of cylinders) has been selected on the device.
- Display Issues: Check for any physical damage to the display. Ensure the device is properly powered (though it has an internal battery, extreme cold can affect LCD performance).
