5. Setup and Installation

5.1 Wiring the Inductive Cable

  1. Locate the spark plug wire on your engine.
  2. Wrap the inductive signal wire (approximately 1.5 meters long) around the spark plug wire 5 to 7 times. Ensure a snug fit for reliable signal detection.
  3. Secure the wrapped wire with zip ties or electrical tape to prevent it from coming loose due to vibration.
  4. Route the remaining wire and the tachometer to a suitable mounting location, ensuring the wire is clear of moving parts and heat sources.

5.2 Engine Firing Pattern Setting

The tachometer needs to be configured for your specific engine type to ensure accurate RPM readings. Refer to the table below to select the correct firing pattern.

To set the firing pattern:

  1. With the device off, press and hold the 'MENU' button until the setting mode appears.
  2. Use the 'SET' button to cycle through the firing patterns (e.g., 1P1R, 2P1R).
  3. Once the correct pattern for your engine is displayed, press 'MENU' to confirm and exit.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Display Modes

The RL-HM035R features several display modes accessible via the 'MENU' and 'SET' buttons.

  • Total Hours (TOT): Displays the cumulative total operating hours of the engine. This value is non-resettable.

  • Real-time RPM: Displays the current engine revolutions per minute when the engine is running.

  • Job Timer (JOB): Measures the duration of a specific task or operation. This timer is resettable.

  • Service Timer (SVC): A countdown timer for maintenance reminders, settable from 0 to 200 hours.

  • Maximum RPM (MAX RPM): Records and displays the highest RPM achieved during operation.

  • Alert RPM (ALERT RPM): Allows setting a programmable RPM threshold. An icon will flash as a warning reminder if this threshold is exceeded.

6.2 Button Functions

  • MENU Button: Used to cycle through different display modes and enter/exit setting menus.
  • SET Button: Used to adjust values within setting menus or reset specific timers (e.g., JOB timer).

7. Maintenance

7.1 Battery Replacement

The RL-HM035R uses a replaceable CR2032 battery. When the battery level is low, a reminder will appear on the display.

  1. Carefully remove the back cover of the device.
  2. Remove the old CR2032 battery.
  3. Insert a new CR2032 battery, ensuring correct polarity.
  4. Replace the back cover securely to maintain the IP65 waterproof rating.

7.2 Cleaning

Wipe the device with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
