Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the optimal performance of your drive recorder. Follow these steps carefully:

  1. Mounting the Unit: Attach the drive recorder to the windshield using the provided adhesive mount. Ensure the camera has a clear view of the road ahead.
  2. Connecting the Power Cord: Insert the power cord into the drive recorder. Use the provided hex wrench to secure the connection if applicable.
  3. Routing the Cable (A-Pillar): Carefully route the power cable along the vehicle's A-pillar. You may need to gently pull back the rubber molding to tuck the cable neatly.
  4. Routing the Cable (Door Molding): Continue routing the cable along the door molding, pushing it into the gap to conceal it, down to the footwell area.
  5. Hiding the Cable (Floor Mat): Guide the cable under the floor mat to keep it out of the way and prevent it from interfering with driving.
  6. Connecting to Power Socket: Plug the power cord into your vehicle's 12V/24V accessory socket (cigarette lighter socket).

Operation

The COMTEC HDR-102 offers various recording modes and functions to ensure comprehensive coverage.

Recording Functions

  • Continuous Recording: The device automatically records video from the moment the engine is turned ON until it is turned OFF. Recording time varies based on video quality settings. Older files are automatically overwritten when the storage limit is reached.
  • Impact Recording: Utilizing a built-in G-sensor, the device detects impacts and automatically saves the corresponding video segment as protected impact recording data. This prevents critical footage from being overwritten.
  • Manual Recording: Pressing the designated switch allows you to manually initiate a recording at any desired moment. This footage is saved as manual recording data and is protected from automatic overwriting.

Safety Features

  • Backup Function: In the event of a power cut due to an accident, the integrated supercapacitor helps prevent file corruption, safeguarding your recorded video.
  • SD Card Check Function: Upon startup, the device checks the microSDHC card for corruption. If an issue is detected, an alert is displayed on the LCD, preventing missed recordings due to faulty storage.
  • Emergency Recording Stop Function: In case of a severe impact, recording automatically stops. This feature prevents important accident footage from being overwritten if the device powers on again while the vehicle is being moved or repaired. Impact detection sensitivity is adjustable in 11 levels.

Viewer Software

The included microSDHC card contains dedicated viewer software. Install this software on your computer to review recorded data. The software allows you to view video, listen to audio, and analyze G-sensor information. You can also convert recorded data into video or still images for saving to your computer.

  • 2.7-inch Large LCD: Provides a clear view of recorded footage directly on the unit. Live view during recording simplifies angle adjustment.
  • Made in Japan: Ensures high quality and reliability.
  • Noise Countermeasures: Designed to prevent interference with digital terrestrial broadcasting reception and navigation GPS signals.
  • LCD Flip Function: The built-in G-sensor automatically detects the unit's orientation and flips the LCD display, allowing flexible mounting options, including on the dashboard.
  • Drive Support Function: Detects and notifies the driver of sudden acceleration, sudden deceleration, and sudden steering maneuvers.
  • Vehicle Speed Alarm: Alerts the driver with a chime sound if a preset speed limit is exceeded.

Maintenance

  • SD Card Care: Regularly check the microSDHC card for errors using the device's built-in function or by formatting it periodically on a computer. Replace the card if it shows signs of corruption or wear.
  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device's exterior and lens. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Firmware Updates: Check the official COMTEC website periodically for any available firmware updates to ensure optimal performance and access to new features.

Troubleshooting

  • Device Not Powering On: Ensure the power cord is securely connected to both the drive recorder and the vehicle's power socket. Check the vehicle's fuse for the power socket.
  • Recording Issues: Verify that the microSDHC card is inserted correctly and is not corrupted. Format the card if necessary. Check if the recording limit has been reached and if older files are being overwritten as expected.
  • Poor Video Quality: Clean the camera lens. Ensure the windshield area where the camera is mounted is clean and free from obstructions.
  • G-sensor Malfunction: If impact recording is not functioning as expected, check the G-sensor sensitivity settings and adjust them as needed.
  • LCD Display Issues: If the display is not clear or shows errors, try restarting the device. If the issue persists, check the SD card for errors.
