3. Setup and Installation

Careful setup is crucial for the effective operation of your dog fence system. Read all instructions before beginning installation.

3.1 Planning Your Boundary

Determine the area where you want to contain your dog(s). The system supports both wired perimeter and wireless remote training. The wired system allows for custom shapes and sizes up to 10 acres with additional wire. Consider obstacles, driveways, and areas you want your dog to avoid.

3.2 Installing the Boundary Wire

The 492 ft. of 20 AWG solid copper core wire can be installed inground, above-ground, or attached to existing fences. For inground installation, bury the wire a few inches deep to protect it. Ensure the wire forms a continuous loop back to the main transmitter unit. Use splice connectors for any breaks or extensions.

3.3 Transmitter Unit Setup

Connect the boundary wire to the main transmitter unit. Plug the transmitter into a standard electrical outlet. Adjust the boundary width dial on the transmitter to set the desired range of the signal. Test the signal strength using the provided test light tool by walking along the planned boundary.

3.4 Collar Preparation

Charge the collar receivers fully before first use. Attach the appropriate contact points (short for short-haired dogs, long for long-haired dogs) to the collar receiver. Ensure the contact points make proper contact with your dog's skin. The collar should be snug enough not to slide around, but loose enough to allow two fingers to fit comfortably under the strap.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Remote Control Functions

The remote control allows for direct training and correction. It features:

• Beep Mode: Emits an audible tone.
• Vibration Mode: Provides a tactile vibration (Levels 1-10).
• Shock Mode: Delivers a static correction (Levels 1-10).
• Dog Selection Buttons: Allows you to select and control up to 3 individual collars.

The remote has a range of up to 3/4 mile in an open field, providing ample coverage for training sessions.

4.2 Collar Receiver Response

When a dog approaches the wired boundary, the collar receiver will respond with a progressive series of warnings:

1. Warning Tone: An audible beep will sound as the dog nears the boundary.
2. Vibration: If the dog continues, a vibration will be activated.
3. Static Correction: If the dog persists in crossing the boundary, a static correction will be delivered, increasing in intensity across 3 levels.

This progressive correction helps the dog understand and respect the boundary.

5. Training Guidelines

Effective training is key to successful use of the Pet Control HQ system. Begin with short, positive training sessions.

• Introduce Boundary Flags: Place boundary flags around the perimeter to visually mark the boundary for your dog.
• Leash Training: Walk your dog on a leash around the boundary, allowing them to encounter the warning tone. Praise and reward them when they retreat from the boundary.
• Progressive Correction: Start with lower correction levels and gradually increase if necessary, observing your dog's reaction. The goal is to get their attention, not to cause distress.
• Consistency: Conduct regular, short training sessions (e.g., 10-15 minutes, 2-3 times a day) until your dog consistently respects the boundary.
• Remote Training: Use the remote control for specific behavioral corrections, such as stopping digging or excessive barking. Utilize the beep and vibration modes first before resorting to static correction.
