5. Operating the Access Point

5.1 Management Modes

The WAC720 operates in two primary management modes:

  • Standalone Mode: Managed individually through its intuitive web-based user interface.
  • Ensemble Mode: Allows centralized management of up to 10 WAC720 access points as a single group. This simplifies configuration and monitoring for multiple devices.

5.2 Initial Configuration (Standalone Mode)

  1. Connect a computer to the same network as the WAC720.
  2. Open a web browser and enter the default IP address (refer to the Installation Guide for the default IP or use a network scanner to find it).
  3. Log in using the default credentials (typically admin for username and password for password). Change these immediately for security.
  4. Follow the on-screen wizard to configure basic wireless settings (SSID, security type, password).

5.3 Ensemble Management

For Ensemble mode, one WAC720 unit acts as the master, managing other WAC720 units. Refer to the NETGEAR ProSAFE documentation for detailed instructions on setting up and managing an Ensemble group.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Firmware Updates

Regularly check the NETGEAR support website for the latest firmware updates. Firmware updates can improve performance, add new features, and address security vulnerabilities.
