- Do not shred metal objects, wet paper, or adhesive labels that may stick to the cutting cylinders.
- Always unplug the shredder before moving, cleaning, or emptying the waste bin.

2. Product Overview
The Dahle 50464 is a high-performance cross-cut paper shredder designed for secure destruction of sensitive documents. It features P-4 security, oil-free operation, SmartPower energy management, and Trident Grip jam protection.

3. Setup
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the shredder from its packaging. Retain packaging materials for potential future transport or service.
- Placement: Position the shredder on a flat, stable surface. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit. The integrated casters allow for easy movement.
- Power Connection: Plug the power cord into a grounded electrical outlet. The shredder is now ready for operation.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Control Panel

The control panel features a central power button and directional controls. The green light indicates the shredder is powered on and ready. The shredder utilizes SmartPower Energy Management to reduce power consumption when not in use.
4.2 Shredding Documents
- Ensure the shredder is powered on (green light illuminated).
- Insert up to 24 sheets of paper (80gsm) into the paper entry slot. The shredder will automatically detect the paper and begin shredding.
- For optimal performance and to prevent jams, avoid exceeding the maximum sheet capacity.

4.3 Shredding CDs, DVDs, and Credit Cards
The Dahle 50464 is capable of shredding CDs, DVDs, and credit cards. Insert these items one at a time into the designated media entry slot (if separate) or the main paper entry slot, following the same procedure as for paper.
4.4 Jam Protection (Trident Grip)
The shredder is equipped with Trident Grip Jam Protection, which helps prevent paper jams by ensuring smooth feeding and reducing paper shifting. If a jam occurs, the shredder may automatically reverse to clear the obstruction. If not, use the reverse function on the control panel.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Emptying the Waste Bin
The shredder features a 30-gallon waste bin. When the bin is full, the shredder will indicate this and cease operation. Unplug the shredder, carefully pull out the waste bin, empty its contents, and reinsert it securely. Ensure the bin is properly seated for the shredder to resume operation.
5.2 Oil-Free Operation
The Dahle 50464 is designed for oil-free operation. This eliminates the need for regular oiling of the cutting cylinders, simplifying maintenance and reducing operational costs.

5.3 Cleaning
To clean the exterior of the shredder, wipe it with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the shredder is unplugged before cleaning.
6. Troubleshooting
- Shredder does not turn on: Check if the power cord is securely plugged into a working outlet. Ensure the waste bin is correctly inserted and the shredder is not indicating a full bin.
- Paper jam: If the shredder stops due to a jam, press the reverse button on the control panel to clear the paper. If the jam persists, unplug the shredder and carefully remove any visible paper from the entry slot. Avoid forcing paper out.
- Reduced shredding capacity: This may indicate the waste bin is nearly full or the shredder is overheating. Allow the shredder to cool down if it has been in continuous use.
