Key features include a convenient short-throw design, wide lens shift capabilities for installation flexibility, and support for screen sizes up to 1000 inches.

2. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to properly install the ELPLU04 lens onto your compatible Epson projector:

  1. Power Off Projector: Ensure your projector is completely powered off and unplugged from the power source before beginning installation.
  2. Remove Existing Lens (if applicable): If a lens is currently installed, carefully remove it according to your projector's user manual. Store it safely.
  3. Align the Lens: Align the ELPLU04 lens with the lens mount on the projector. Ensure the alignment marks on both the lens and the projector match.
  4. Insert and Secure: Gently insert the lens into the projector's lens mount. Twist or lock the lens into place as indicated by your projector's specific mechanism. Do not force the lens.
  5. Power On and Test: Once the lens is securely attached, plug in and power on your projector. The projector should recognize the new lens.

For detailed instructions on lens removal and installation specific to your projector model, refer to your projector's official documentation.

3. Operating the Lens

The ELPLU04 lens offers various adjustments to optimize your projection. These adjustments are typically made via the projector's menu system or physical controls on the lens itself, depending on the projector model.

3.1. Zoom Adjustment

The zoom function allows you to adjust the size of the projected image without moving the projector. Rotate the zoom ring on the lens or use the projector's menu controls to achieve the desired image size. The zoom ratio for this lens is 1 to 1.2.

3.2. Focus Adjustment

After adjusting the zoom, fine-tune the image clarity using the focus ring on the lens or the projector's focus controls. Adjust until the image appears sharp and clear across the entire screen.

3.3. Lens Shift

Lens shift allows you to move the projected image vertically and horizontally without tilting or moving the projector, which helps maintain optimal image geometry. The available lens shift range varies based on the projector's lumen output:

  • Up to 8,000-lumen projectors (WUXGA/WXGA):
    • Throw Ratio: 0.87 to 1.05
    • Vertical Lens Shift: -67% to +67%
    • Horizontal Lens Shift: -30% to +30%
  • 9,000- to 20,000-lumen projectors (WUXGA):
    • Throw Ratio: 0.64 to 0.77
    • Vertical Lens Shift: -60% to +60%
    • Horizontal Lens Shift: -18% to +18%
  • Native 4K projectors:
    • Throw Ratio: 0.62 to 0.75
    • Vertical Lens Shift: -58% to +58%
    • Horizontal Lens Shift: -16% to +16%

Consult your projector's manual for specific instructions on accessing and adjusting lens shift controls.

4. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your ELPLU04 lens.

4.1. Cleaning the Lens

  • Dust Removal: Use a soft, lint-free cloth or a lens brush to gently remove dust from the lens surface. A can of compressed air (held upright to prevent propellant discharge) can also be used for stubborn dust.
  • Smudges and Fingerprints: For smudges or fingerprints, apply a small amount of lens cleaning solution specifically designed for optical lenses onto a clean microfiber cloth. Gently wipe the lens in a circular motion from the center outwards. Never apply cleaning solution directly to the lens surface.
  • Avoid Abrasives: Do not use abrasive cloths, paper towels, or harsh cleaning chemicals, as these can scratch or damage the lens coating.

4.2. Storage

When not in use, store the lens in a clean, dry, and dust-free environment. Use the original lens caps to protect the front and rear elements from dust and scratches.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your ELPLU04 lens, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • Image is Blurry/Out of Focus:
    • Ensure the lens is securely mounted to the projector.
    • Adjust the focus ring carefully until the image is sharp.
    • Check if the projector's native resolution matches the content being displayed.
  • Image is Not Centered/Distorted:
    • Utilize the lens shift function to reposition the image without tilting the projector.
    • Verify that the projector is placed at the correct distance and angle from the screen for a short-throw lens.
    • Check for any keystone correction settings on the projector that might be causing distortion.
  • Lens Not Recognized by Projector:
    • Ensure the lens is fully inserted and locked into the projector's lens mount.
    • Power cycle the projector (turn off, unplug, wait 30 seconds, plug in, turn on).
    • Confirm that the lens is compatible with your specific projector model (Pro L or Pro G7000 Series).
  • Dust Spots on Image:
    • Clean the lens surfaces as described in the Maintenance section.
    • If spots persist, the dust might be inside the projector or on its internal optical elements, requiring professional service.

If problems persist after attempting these steps, contact Epson customer support or a qualified service technician.
