Installation Guide

Follow these steps for a successful installation of your EcoPure EPINL30 In-Line Refrigerator Water Filter. A video guide is also available below for visual assistance.

Tools You'll Need:

  • Utility knife
  • Towel
  • Bucket
  • Filter mounting bracket (can be purchased from a local plumbing supply store)
  • Adjustable wrenches (2)
  • Tape measure
  • Screwdriver
  • Additional 1/4" braided water line (if you have a braided water line and need to extend it)

Step-by-Step Installation:

  1. Prepare the Refrigerator: Pull your refrigerator forward to access the water supply tubing behind it. If necessary, have another person assist you.
  2. Shut Off Water and Power: Locate and shut off the water supply to the refrigerator. Unplug the refrigerator's power supply from the outlet.
  3. Verify Tubing Size: Use a tape measure to ensure your water supply tubing is 1/4 inch. If it is a different size, an adapter will be required (available at local plumbing supply stores).
  4. Cut Plastic Water Supply Line (Plastic Lines ONLY): For plastic water supply lines, cleanly cut the tubing where you intend to install the filter. Ensure the cut is as square as possible for a flush connection. Keep a bucket ready to catch any residual water. Leave enough tubing length to allow the fridge to be moved for future filter access.
  5. Connect Raw Water Flow Tube: Insert the raw water supply tube into the inlet collet of the filter. Ensure it is completely inserted (approximately 11/16 of an inch).
  6. Connect Braided Water Supply Line (Braided Lines ONLY): If you have a braided water supply line, unscrew the line from the back of the refrigerator. Use two adjustable wrenches to attach the adapter (included with the filter) to the water supply line. Then, insert the adapter into the inlet of the filter.
  7. Flush the Filter: To remove air and carbon fines, turn the water supply back on and drain approximately 5 gallons of water into a bucket through the filter's outlet. This prevents black water from running from the fridge initially. After flushing, turn the water supply back off.
  8. Connect Outlet Water Supply: Connect the outlet water supply tube by inserting it into the outlet port of the filter. If using a braided line, thread the braided supply line into the back of the refrigerator and secure it.
  9. Check for Leaks: Open the water supply valve and carefully inspect the filter's inlet and outlet ports for any leaks.
  10. Mount the Filter: If no leaks are found, mount the filter in a safe, protected location, such as behind the refrigerator, using the filter bracket and screws.
  11. Restore Power and Position Refrigerator: Plug the refrigerator power cable back into the outlet and carefully move the refrigerator back into its original position.

Maintenance

The EcoPure EPINL30 filter is designed for a long lifespan, but regular replacement is crucial for optimal performance.

  • Filter Replacement: The filter must be changed at least every 5 years.
  • Water Quality Impact: The actual lifespan of the filter can vary based on the sediment levels and overall composition of your local water supply.

Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your EcoPure EPINL30 filter, consider the following:

  • Reduced Water Pressure: A noticeable reduction in water pressure through your refrigerator's dispenser or ice maker is a primary indicator that the filter may be clogged and needs to be replaced, even if it hasn't reached the 5-year mark.
  • Unusual Taste or Odor: If you detect a return of chlorine taste or odor in your water, it suggests the filter's capacity to reduce these contaminants has been exhausted, and a replacement is needed.
  • Leaks: If leaks occur after installation, ensure all connections are secure and properly tightened. Re-check the squareness of any cut plastic tubing.
