5. Setup

5.1. Charging the Battery

1. Connect the charger to a suitable power outlet.
2. Plug the charger's output connector into the charging port on the transmitter. The charging port is typically located on the back or side of the transmitter.
3. Allow the battery to charge fully. Refer to the charger's indicator lights for charging status. A full charge typically takes several hours.
4. Disconnect the charger once charging is complete.

Note: The 18SZA uses a 6.6V 2100mAh LiFe battery. Only use the supplied charger or a compatible LiFe charger.

5.2. Binding the Receiver (R7008SB)

Binding establishes a secure communication link between your transmitter and receiver.

1. Ensure the transmitter is turned OFF.
2. Connect a battery to the R7008SB receiver. The receiver's LED will begin to flash red.
3. Press and hold the Link button on the R7008SB receiver. The LED will change from flashing red to solid red.
4. While holding the Link button, turn ON the transmitter.
5. Release the Link button on the receiver after a few seconds. The receiver's LED should now be solid green, indicating a successful bind.
6. Turn OFF both the transmitter and receiver, then turn them ON again to confirm the bind.

5.3. Initial Power-On and Model Selection

1. Ensure all switches are in their neutral or off positions.
2. Press and hold the power button on the transmitter until the screen illuminates.
3. Upon first power-on, you may be prompted to set basic system parameters. Follow the on-screen instructions.
4. From the main menu, select 'Model Select' to choose an existing model or create a new one. The 18SZA supports 15-character user and model naming.
5. Select the appropriate model type (Airplane, Helicopter, Glider, or Multi-rotor) for your new model.

6.1. Menu Navigation and Touchscreen Use

The 18SZA features a responsive touchscreen for easy navigation. Tap icons or menu items to select them. Swipe to scroll through lists or pages.

6.2. Basic Programming Features

Access the 'System Menu' or 'Linkage Menu' to configure various settings:

• Sub Trims: Fine-tune the neutral position of servos.
• Servo Reversing: Change the direction of servo movement.
• End Point Adjustment (EPA): Set the maximum travel limits for each servo.
• AFR D/R (Dual Rate/Exponential): Adjust control sensitivity around center stick and at full deflection. The 18SZA offers 3 AFR curve modes with 17 points for precise customization.
• Programmable Mixing: Create custom mixes between channels for advanced control setups (e.g., flaperons, V-tail).
• Throttle Cut & Idle Down: Essential safety features for engine models.
• Logic Switches: Define conditions for activating specific functions.

6.3. Telemetry Functions

The 18SZA supports S.Bus2 telemetry sensors, providing real-time data during flight. Compatible sensors can monitor:

• System Timer: Tracks total operating time of the transmitter.
• Model Timer: Tracks total operating time for the selected model.
• Throttle Stick Alarm: Alerts if the throttle stick is not at idle when powering on.
• Alarm Voltage: Configurable low voltage alarm for the transmitter battery.
• Alarm Vibrator: Provides haptic feedback for alarms.

7.1. Cleaning

Wipe the transmitter's exterior with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a slightly damp cloth with mild soap, then wipe dry. Do not use solvents or abrasive cleaners.

Store the transmitter in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for extended periods, ensure the battery is charged to approximately 50% capacity.
