3. Setup

1. Place the Scrabble game board in the center of the playing area, accessible to all players.
2. Each player selects one letter rack.
3. Place all 100 letter tiles into the letter bag. Shake the bag thoroughly to mix the tiles.
4. To determine the first player, each player draws one tile from the bag. The player who draws the letter closest to 'A' goes first. If two players draw the same letter, they draw again. Return all tiles to the bag and mix them again after determining the first player.

4. Operating Instructions (How to Play)

1. The first player forms a word using two or more of their letter tiles. This word must be placed on the game board so that one of its letters covers the center star square. Words can be formed horizontally or vertically, but not diagonally.
2. After placing a word, the player calculates their score for that turn (see Section 5: Scoring) and announces it.
3. The player then draws new tiles from the letter bag to replenish their rack to seven tiles.
4. Play proceeds clockwise. Subsequent players build upon existing words on the board. This can be done by:
   • Adding one or more letters to a word already on the board.

If a challenged word is found to be invalid, the player who played it removes their tiles and loses their turn. If the word is valid, the challenger loses their next turn.
7. The game ends when all letters have been drawn from the bag and one player has used all the letters on their rack, or when all players pass two consecutive turns.

5. Scoring

Scoring in Scrabble is based on the numerical values of the letter tiles and the bonus squares on the board:

• Letter Scores: Each letter tile has a numerical value printed on it. Add the values of all letters used in a word to get its basic score.
• Premium Letter Squares: If a letter is placed on a light blue square, its value is doubled. If placed on a dark blue square, its value is tripled. These multipliers apply only to the individual letter placed on the square.
