Safety Information
Always follow basic safety precautions when using electrical tools to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury.
- Read all instructions before operating the tool.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including eye protection, hearing protection, and gloves.
- Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
- Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust.
- Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.
- Use the correct tool for your application. Do not force the tool.
- Disconnect the battery pack from the tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing the tool.
- Use only DEWALT recommended accessories.
- Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
Battery Safety
- Do not incinerate the battery pack even if it is severely damaged or completely worn out. The battery pack can explode in a fire.
- Do not short-circuit a battery pack.
- Do not charge the battery pack in a damp or wet environment.
- Use only DEWALT chargers for charging DEWALT batteries.

Setup
1. Charging the Battery
Ensure the battery is fully charged before first use. Connect the charger to a standard power outlet. Slide the battery onto the charger until it clicks into place. The indicator light on the charger will show the charging status. Refer to the charger's specific instructions for detailed light indications.
2. Installing/Removing Battery from Drill
Align the battery with the base of the drill handle and slide it in until it clicks securely. To remove the battery, press the release button located on the battery and slide it out from the drill handle.
3. Installing/Removing Drill Bits
To install a bit, twist the chuck counter-clockwise to open the jaws. Insert the desired bit into the chuck, ensuring it is fully seated. Twist the chuck clockwise to tighten the jaws securely around the bit. To remove a bit, reverse the process by twisting the chuck counter-clockwise.
Operating Instructions
1. Power On/Off and Variable Speed Trigger
The drill is activated by pressing the trigger switch. The speed is variable, increasing as you apply more pressure to the trigger. Releasing the trigger turns the drill off.
2. Forward/Reverse Selector
Located above the trigger, slide the selector to the left for forward rotation (for driving screws or drilling). Slide it to the right for reverse rotation (for removing screws). The center position locks the trigger, preventing accidental activation for safety during storage or transport.
3. Speed Settings (1 and 2)
Use the speed selector switch on top of the drill to choose between two speed ranges:
- Position 1: Provides lower speed and higher torque, ideal for heavy-duty driving applications and larger diameter drilling.
- Position 2: Provides higher speed, suitable for faster drilling and lighter driving tasks.
4. Clutch Settings
The adjustable clutch collar allows you to set the torque for driving screws, preventing overtightening or stripping. Rotate the collar to the desired torque setting (numbered 1-15). For drilling applications, set the collar to the drill icon for maximum torque.
5. LED Work Light
An integrated LED light illuminates the work area when the trigger is pressed, improving visibility in dimly lit spaces. The light may remain on for a short period after the trigger is released.

Maintenance
1. Cleaning
Regularly clean the tool's ventilation slots to prevent dust and debris buildup, which can lead to overheating. Use a soft, damp cloth for cleaning the exterior. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
2. Battery Care
For optimal battery life, store batteries in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Avoid storing batteries in a fully discharged state. If not in use for extended periods, charge them periodically to maintain their capacity.
3. Bit Care
Keep your screwdriving bits clean and sharp for optimal performance and to prevent damage to fasteners. Always store them in the provided Tough Case container to prevent loss and damage.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Drill not turning on | Battery not charged or improperly seated; Forward/reverse selector in locked position. | Recharge battery and ensure it is securely clicked into place. Move the forward/reverse selector out of the center (locked) position. |
| Loss of power during operation | Low battery charge; Incorrect speed or clutch setting for the task. | Recharge the battery. Adjust the speed setting to a lower speed (Position 1) for more torque, or increase the clutch setting. |
| Drill bit slipping in chuck | Chuck not tightened sufficiently; Worn or incorrect bit type. | Ensure the chuck is tightened securely around the bit. Replace worn bits. Use the correct bit type and size for the fastener or material. |
