WARNING: Read and understand all safety information and operating instructions in this manual before using the Woods DMMW3 Pocket Digital Multimeter. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.

  • Always inspect the multimeter and test leads for damage before use. Do not use if damaged.
  • Ensure the function switch is in the correct position for the measurement being performed.
  • Do not exceed the maximum input limits for any function: CAT III 300V, CAT II 600V.
  • Use caution when working with voltages above 30V AC RMS, 42V peak, or 60V DC, as these pose a shock hazard.
  • Do not operate the meter with the battery cover removed or loosened.
  • Replace the battery immediately when the low battery indicator appears to ensure accurate readings.
  • Disconnect test leads from the circuit before changing functions.
  • The current input is fused (200mA MAX FUSED). Do not attempt to measure currents exceeding this rating.

  • RANGE Button: Manually selects measurement range (if not in auto-ranging mode).
  • HOLD Button: Freezes the current display reading.
  • MAX Button: Displays the maximum reading recorded during a measurement session.
  • Input Jacks:
    • COM (Common) Jack: For the black test lead.
    • VΩHz%mA Jack: For the red test lead when measuring voltage, resistance, frequency, capacitance, or current (up to 200mA).

5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation

The DMMW3 uses one CR2032 coin cell battery. If the low battery indicator appears on the display, or if the unit does not power on, replace the battery:

  1. Ensure the multimeter is powered off and disconnect all test leads.
  2. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the unit.
  3. Use a small screwdriver to open the battery compartment cover.
  4. Remove the old CR2032 battery, noting its polarity.
  5. Insert a new CR2032 battery with the positive (+) side facing up.
  6. Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it with the screw.

5.2 Connecting Test Leads

Always connect the test leads correctly for accurate and safe measurements:

  • Insert the black test lead into the COM (Common) input jack.
  • Insert the red test lead into the VΩHz%mA input jack for most measurements (voltage, resistance, continuity, diode, capacitance, frequency, current up to 200mA).

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On/Off

To power on the multimeter, rotate the Function Selector Dial from the OFF position to any desired measurement function. To power off, rotate the dial back to the OFF position (indicated by the power symbol ).

6.2 Function Selection

Rotate the Function Selector Dial to choose the primary measurement category:

  • mA: For measuring DC or AC current (up to 200mA).
  • Ω / Continuity / Diode / Capacitance: For measuring resistance, checking continuity, testing diodes, or measuring capacitance. Use the MODE button to cycle through these functions.
  • V: For measuring DC or AC voltage. Use the MODE button to switch between DC and AC voltage.
  • Hz%: For measuring frequency or duty cycle. Use the MODE button to switch between frequency (Hz) and duty cycle (%).

6.3 Using Control Buttons

  • MODE: Press to select secondary functions within a dial position (e.g., AC/DC, Resistance/Continuity/Diode/Capacitance, Hz/%).
  • RANGE: Press to switch between auto-ranging and manual ranging. In manual ranging, press repeatedly to cycle through available ranges.
  • HOLD: Press to freeze the current reading on the display. Press again to release.
  • MAX: Press to capture and display the maximum value measured during a session. Press again to exit MAX mode.

6.4 Performing Measurements (Examples)

Always ensure the circuit is de-energized before connecting test leads for resistance, continuity, diode, or capacitance measurements.

6.4.1 DC/AC Voltage Measurement

  1. Set the Function Selector Dial to V.
  2. Press the MODE button to select DC or AC voltage (DC or AC indicator on display).
  3. Connect the red test lead to the positive (+) side of the circuit and the black test lead to the negative (-) side or ground.
  4. Read the voltage value on the display.

6.4.2 Resistance Measurement

  1. Ensure the circuit is de-energized.
  2. Set the Function Selector Dial to . Press MODE until the Ω symbol is displayed.
  3. Connect the test leads across the component to be measured.
  4. Read the resistance value on the display.

6.4.3 Continuity Test

  1. Ensure the circuit is de-energized.
  2. Set the Function Selector Dial to . Press MODE until the continuity symbol () is displayed.
  3. Connect the test leads across the circuit or component.
  4. A continuous beep indicates continuity (low resistance). The display will show the resistance value.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

Wipe the case with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Keep the input terminals free of dirt and moisture.

7.2 Battery Replacement

Refer to Section 5.1 for detailed battery replacement instructions. Always use a fresh CR2032 battery.

7.3 Fuse Replacement

The DMMW3 has a 200mA MAX FUSED input for current measurements. If the current measurement function stops working, the fuse may need replacement. This procedure should only be performed by qualified personnel.

  1. Ensure the multimeter is powered off and disconnect all test leads.
  2. Open the back casing of the multimeter (this may require removing multiple screws).
  3. Locate the fuse.
  4. Replace the blown fuse with a fuse of the exact same type and rating (e.g., 200mA, fast-acting).
  5. Carefully reassemble the multimeter, ensuring all screws are tightened.

WARNING: Using an incorrect fuse type or rating can damage the meter and pose a serious safety hazard.

7.4 Storage

If the meter is not to be used for an extended period, remove the battery to prevent leakage. Store the meter in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

8. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Meter does not power on.Dead or incorrectly installed battery.Check battery polarity; replace battery (CR2032). Refer to Section 5.1.
