Setup and Preparation
- Check Expiration Date: Verify the expiration date printed on the test strip vial and outer box. Do not use expired test strips.
- Compatibility: Ensure the test strips are compatible with your FORA blood glucose meter model (V30a, G30a, or Premium V10).
- Storage: Store test strips in their original vial with the cap tightly closed. Keep them in a cool, dry place between 39.2°F and 86°F (4°C and 30°C). Avoid direct sunlight, heat, and humidity. Do not refrigerate or freeze.
- Inspection: Before use, visually inspect the test strip for any damage or discoloration. Do not use damaged strips.
- Hand Hygiene: Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water, then dry them completely before handling test strips or performing a test.
Operating Instructions
Follow these steps to perform a blood glucose test:
- Prepare the Meter: Turn on your FORA blood glucose meter. Ensure the meter is clean and functioning correctly according to its own user manual.
- Insert Test Strip: Remove one test strip from the vial and immediately recap the vial tightly. Insert the test strip into the test strip port of the meter. The meter should turn on automatically or display a prompt indicating it is ready for a blood sample.
- Obtain Blood Sample: Use a lancing device to obtain a fresh capillary whole blood sample from your fingertip or an alternative site as recommended by your healthcare professional and meter manual.
- Apply Blood Sample: Gently touch the tip of the test strip to the drop of blood. The blood will be drawn into the strip automatically. Do not smear the blood. Ensure the confirmation window on the strip is completely filled.
- Read Result: The meter will begin counting down and display your blood glucose result within a few seconds.
- Record and Dispose: Record your result if necessary. Carefully remove the used test strip from the meter and dispose of it, along with the used lancet, in a puncture-resistant container (sharps container) according to local regulations.
Maintenance and Storage
- Always store test strips in their original vial. Do not transfer them to another container.
- Keep the vial cap tightly closed immediately after removing a test strip to protect the remaining strips from moisture.
- Store the vial in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat.
- Do not use test strips beyond the expiration date printed on the vial or more than 6 months after opening the vial, whichever comes first. Write the opening date on the vial to help track this.
- Avoid bending, cutting, or altering the test strips in any way.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues during testing, consider the following:
- Error Message on Meter: Refer to your FORA blood glucose meter's user manual for specific error codes and their solutions. Common issues include insufficient blood sample, expired or damaged test strip, or incorrect strip insertion.
- Inaccurate Readings:
- Ensure hands are clean and dry before testing.
- Check the expiration date of the test strips.
- Verify the test strip vial was tightly capped after each use.
- Perform a control solution test to check the meter and strip accuracy.
- Ensure the blood sample size is adequate and applied correctly.
- Strip Not Recognized: Ensure the test strip is fully inserted into the meter in the correct orientation. Check if the strip is damaged or expired.
- No Blood Drawn into Strip: Ensure the blood drop is large enough and the strip's absorbent tip is gently touched to the blood drop. Do not press the strip against the skin.
If problems persist, contact ForaCare customer support or your healthcare professional.
