1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the safe and effective use of your MOTOPOWER MP00207A 12V 2Amp Automatic Battery Charger/Maintainer. This device is designed to charge and maintain 12V common lithium-ion batteries and 12V lead-acid batteries, including WET, GEL, MF, CA, EFB, AGM batteries. It features a microprocessor-controlled 4-stage charging process to ensure optimal battery health and longevity.

2. Safety Information

• Battery Type Compatibility: This charger is designed for 12V common lithium-ion batteries and 12V lead-acid batteries ONLY. DO NOT use with LiFePO4 batteries.
• Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation when charging. Batteries can produce explosive gases.
• Spark Prevention: Connect and disconnect the output clips only after disconnecting the AC power cord. This charger is designed to be spark-free during connection.
• Eye Protection: Always wear eye protection when working near batteries.
• Skin Protection: Avoid contact with battery acid. If contact occurs, flush immediately with water.
• Damaged Equipment: Do not operate the charger if it has been dropped, damaged, or is not functioning properly.
• Children: Keep out of reach of children. This is not a toy.

• Reverse Polarity Protection: The charger features reverse polarity protection. However, always ensure correct connection (+ to + and - to -) to prevent damage.

5. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your battery charger:

1. Choose Connection Method: Decide whether to use the alligator clamp cable or the ring terminal cable based on your battery access and intended use. The ring terminal cable is ideal for long-term maintenance charging where direct battery access is less frequent.
2. Connect to Battery:
   • For Alligator Clamps: Connect the RED (+) clamp to the positive battery terminal and the BLACK (-) clamp to the negative battery terminal.
   • For Ring Terminals: Securely attach the RED (+) ring terminal to the positive battery post and the BLACK (-) ring terminal to the negative battery post.

   Ensure connections are secure and free from corrosion. The charger will not spark during connection if the AC power is not yet connected.

3. Connect to AC Power: Plug the charger's AC power cord into a standard 100-240V AC wall outlet. The 'Power' LED indicator on the charger will illuminate.

6. Operating Instructions

Once connected, the MOTOPOWER MP00207A operates automatically through its intelligent 4-stage charging process:

• Stage 1: Diagnosis
  The charger first analyzes the battery's condition to determine its voltage and overall health. If the battery voltage is below 8V, the charger will stop charging to ensure safety, indicating a potential battery cell problem.
• Stage 2: Bulk Charge
  During this stage, the charger delivers a constant current to bring the battery's charge level up quickly. The 'Charging' LED will be illuminated.
• Stage 3: Absorption
  As the battery approaches full charge, the charger switches to a constant voltage mode, gradually reducing the current to prevent overcharging and ensure a complete charge. The 'Charging' LED will remain illuminated.
• Stage 4: Maintenance (Float)
  Once the battery is fully charged, the charger automatically switches to maintenance mode. It monitors the battery voltage and provides a small, constant current (pulse current) to keep the battery at optimal voltage, compensating for self-discharge. The 'Charged/Maintain' LED will illuminate, and the 'Charging' LED will turn off. This stage optimizes battery performance during long-term connection.

LED Indicator Guide:

• Power LED (Green): Illuminates when the charger is connected to AC power.
• Charging LED (Red): Illuminates during the Bulk Charge and Absorption stages.
• Charged/Maintain LED (Green): Illuminates when the battery is fully charged and the charger is in Maintenance mode.
• Reverse Connection LED (Red): Illuminates if the battery clamps/terminals are connected in reverse polarity. Disconnect AC power immediately and correct the connection.

7. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your MOTOPOWER battery charger, follow these maintenance guidelines:

• Cleaning: Disconnect the charger from both AC power and the battery before cleaning. Wipe the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
• Storage: Store the charger in a cool, dry place when not in use. Keep cables neatly coiled to prevent damage.
• Cable Inspection: Periodically inspect the AC power cord and output cables for any signs of damage, cuts, or fraying. Do not use the charger if any cables are damaged.
• Connector Care: Keep the SAE quick release connectors clean and free of debris to ensure a good connection.
