5. Setup
5.1 Power Connection
- Connect the supplied AC power adapter to the DC IN 5V port on the back of the NRC-181.
- Plug the other end of the adapter into a standard AC wall outlet (100-240V).
- The unit will power on, and the display will illuminate.
5.2 Battery Backup Installation
For battery backup, which preserves time and alarm settings during a power outage:
- Open the battery compartment cover located on the bottom of the unit.
- Insert two (2) AAA batteries (not included), ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
Note: Batteries are for backup only and do not power the main functions of the clock radio.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Setting the Time
- Press and hold the CLK/MEM button until the hour digits begin to flash.
- Press the HR button to adjust the hour. Press and hold for faster adjustment.
- Press the MIN button to adjust the minute. Press and hold for faster adjustment.
- Press CLK/MEM again to confirm and save the time.
6.2 Setting Alarms
The NRC-181 features two independent alarms (Alarm 1 and Alarm 2) with programmable 7-day settings.
- Press and hold the ALM 1 or ALM 2 button until the alarm hour digits begin to flash.
- Press the HR button to adjust the alarm hour.
- Press the MIN button to adjust the alarm minute.
- Press ALM 1 or ALM 2 again to select the alarm source (FM Radio, Bluetooth, or Buzzer).
- Press ALM 1 or ALM 2 a third time to select the alarm schedule (Daily, Weekday, or Weekend).
- Press ALM 1 or ALM 2 a fourth time to confirm and save the alarm settings.
To turn off an active alarm, press the ALM OFF/SOURCE button. To temporarily silence an alarm, press the SNOOZE button.
6.3 FM Radio Operation
- Press the SOURCE button to switch to FM radio mode.
- Press the TUNE +/- buttons to manually tune to a desired FM station. Press and hold for automatic scanning.
- To save a preset: Tune to the desired station, then press and hold the CLK/MEM button. Use the TUNE +/- buttons to select a preset number (P01-P10), then press CLK/MEM again to save.
- To recall a preset: In FM mode, briefly press the CLK/MEM button repeatedly to cycle through saved presets.
6.4 Bluetooth Pairing
- Press the SOURCE button to switch to Bluetooth mode. The Bluetooth indicator on the display will flash.
- On your Bluetooth-enabled device (e.g., smartphone), enable Bluetooth and search for available devices.
- Select "NRC-181" from the list of devices.
- Once paired, the Bluetooth indicator will stop flashing and remain solid. You can now stream audio wirelessly.
6.5 USB Charging
Connect your smartphone or other compatible USB-powered device to the USB CHARGER port on the back of the unit using a suitable USB cable (not included). The NRC-181 provides 5V, 1A output for charging.
6.6 AUX Input
To play audio from a device without Bluetooth, connect it to the 3.5mm AUX IN port on the back of the unit using an audio cable (not included). Press the SOURCE button to select AUX mode.
6.7 Snooze, Sleep, and Dimmer Functions
- Snooze: When an alarm sounds, press the large SNOOZE button to temporarily silence it for 9 minutes.
- Sleep: Press the SLEEP/DIMMER button repeatedly to set a sleep timer (e.g., 90, 60, 30, 15 minutes, or OFF). The radio will play for the set duration and then turn off automatically.
- Dimmer: Press and hold the SLEEP/DIMMER button to cycle through Hi and Lo display brightness settings.
7. Maintenance
- Keep the unit away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and excessive dust or moisture.
- Clean the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- If the unit will not be used for an extended period, remove the backup batteries to prevent leakage.
8. Troubleshooting
- No Power: Ensure the AC adapter is securely plugged into both the unit and a working wall outlet. Check the power outlet with another device.
- Display Not Working: Check the dimmer setting. Ensure the unit has power.
- Alarm Not Sounding: Verify the alarm time and schedule are correctly set. Ensure the alarm is activated (not turned off). Check the alarm volume.
- Poor FM Reception: Extend the FM antenna fully. Try repositioning the unit for better signal.
- Bluetooth Pairing Issues: Ensure the unit is in Bluetooth mode and discoverable. Make sure your device's Bluetooth is enabled and within range. Forget "NRC-181" from your device's Bluetooth list and try pairing again.
- USB Charging Not Working: Ensure the USB cable is functional and correctly connected. Verify the device being charged is compatible with 5V, 1A charging.
