Setup

Connecting the LINE 2 USB Cable

  1. Identify Inputs: Locate the 1/4" line-level outputs on your audio source (e.g., mixer, keyboard, drum machine, or other electronic musical instrument). Ensure these are line-level outputs, not speaker outputs.
  2. Connect 1/4" Jacks: Plug the dual mono 1/4" jack connectors of the LINE 2 USB cable into the corresponding left (L) and right (R) outputs of your audio source. The red connector typically corresponds to the right channel, and the white/black connector to the left channel.
  3. Connect USB: Insert the USB Type-A connector of the cable into an available USB port on your Mac or PC computer.
  4. System Recognition: Your computer should automatically detect the LINE 2 USB cable as an audio input device. No additional drivers are typically required for Windows or macOS.

Initial Software Configuration

Once connected, you may need to select the LINE 2 USB as your audio input device within your operating system's sound settings or your preferred Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software.

Operating

Recording Audio

  1. Set Levels: Before recording, ensure the output level from your audio source is appropriate. Start with a low volume and gradually increase it. Monitor the input levels in your recording software to prevent clipping (distortion). The goal is to achieve a strong signal without exceeding the maximum input level.
  2. Start Recording: In your chosen recording software, initiate the recording process.
  3. Monitor Audio: Listen to the audio through your computer's speakers or headphones to ensure the sound is being captured correctly. Adjust levels as needed.
  4. Stop Recording: Once finished, stop the recording in your software and save your project.

The LINE 2 USB cable is designed for one-way audio transfer from your instrument/mixer to your computer. It does not provide audio output from the computer back to your audio source.
