Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use of your Panasonic LUMIX GX85 4K Mirrorless Camera. Please read these instructions carefully before using the product and retain them for future reference. The LUMIX GX85 combines advanced imaging technology with a compact, mirrorless design, offering high-quality photography and 4K video capabilities.

Setup
1. Charging the Battery
The camera uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery (DMW-BLG10). Fully charge the battery before first use.
- Insert the battery into the camera's battery compartment.
- Connect the camera to the AC adaptor using the USB connection cable.
- Plug the AC adaptor into a power outlet. The charge indicator will light up during charging and turn off when complete.
Note: The camera supports in-camera USB charging.
2. Inserting an SD Card
The camera uses SD, SDHC, or SDXC memory cards. Ensure the card is inserted correctly to avoid damage.
- Open the battery/card compartment cover on the bottom of the camera.
- Insert the SD card with the label facing the back of the camera until it clicks into place.
- Close the compartment cover securely.
Recommended: Use SDXC cards with UHS-I speed class 3 (U3) for 4K video recording.
3. Attaching the Lens
Align the white mounting mark on the lens with the white mounting mark on the camera body. Turn the lens clockwise until it clicks.

4. Attaching the Shoulder Strap
Thread the shoulder strap through the strap lugs on the camera body as illustrated in the quick start guide. Ensure it is securely fastened.
Operating the Camera
Basic Controls and Display
Familiarize yourself with the camera's main controls:
- Power Switch: Located on the top plate.
- Mode Dial: Selects shooting modes (Program AE, Aperture Priority AE, Shutter Priority AE, Manual Exposure, etc.).
- Shutter Button: Half-press to focus, full-press to capture.
- Control Dials: Adjust settings like aperture, shutter speed, and exposure compensation.
- Tilting Touch LCD: A 3-inch display that can be tilted for various shooting angles and offers touch control for menu navigation and focus point selection.
- Electronic Viewfinder (EVF): A 2764k-dot eye-level viewfinder for precise framing.
Shooting Modes
Rotate the mode dial to select your desired shooting mode:
- Intelligent Auto (iA): Camera automatically optimizes settings.
- Program AE (P): Camera sets aperture and shutter speed, you control other settings.
- Aperture Priority AE (A): You set aperture, camera sets shutter speed. Ideal for controlling depth of field.
- Shutter Priority AE (S): You set shutter speed, camera sets aperture. Ideal for controlling motion blur.
- Manual Exposure (M): You control both aperture and shutter speed.
- Scene Guide (SCN): Pre-set modes for specific scenes (e.g., Portrait, Landscape, Sports).
- Creative Control: Apply various filter effects.
Focusing and Image Stabilization
The LUMIX GX85 features advanced focusing and stabilization systems:
- Autofocus (AF): Selectable modes include Single AF (AF-S) for still subjects and Continuous AF (AF-C) for moving subjects.
- Depth From Defocus (DFD) Technology: Provides high-speed, high-precision autofocus.
- Dual Image Stabilization (Dual I.S. 1.0): Combines 5-axis in-body image stabilization with 2-axis optical image stabilization in compatible LUMIX lenses, providing up to 4 stops of shake correction for both photos and videos. This allows for sharper images in low light or with longer shutter speeds without a tripod.
4K Photo and Video Features
Leverage the camera's 4K capabilities for enhanced creative control:
- 4K Video: Records stunning 4K UHD (3840x2160) video at 30p/25p/24p.
