Maintenance

  • Regular Flushing: Always run cold water for at least 15 seconds after grinding to ensure all food particles are flushed completely through the drain system.
  • Cleaning: For general cleaning and odor prevention, grind small citrus peels (lemon, orange) with cold water. This helps to clean the grinding chamber and freshen the drain.
  • Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Do not use drain cleaners or harsh chemicals in your disposal, as they can damage the unit and plumbing.

Troubleshooting

The Moen Host Series GXS75C is designed to reduce jamming with its powerful Vortex motor. If the unit stops operating, check the following:

  • Power Supply: Ensure the disposal is properly plugged into a working electrical outlet. Check your circuit breaker or fuse box if the outlet has no power.
  • Overload Protection: The unit may have an internal overload protector that trips if the motor is overworked. Allow the motor to cool for a few minutes, then press the red reset button located on the bottom of the disposal (if applicable, consult your specific model's diagram).
  • Jamming: If the motor hums but does not grind, an object may be lodged in the grinding chamber. Turn off the power to the disposal. Use a flashlight to look into the drain opening for any foreign objects. If an object is visible, carefully remove it with pliers or tongs. Never use your hand.
  • Leaking: Check all plumbing connections for tightness. Ensure the sink flange is properly sealed with plumber's putty.
