3. Setup

3.1. Battery Installation and Charging

The MD-MT831-S can be powered by the included Lithium-ion rechargeable battery or optional AA alkaline batteries using the provided dry cell case.

  1. Installing the Rechargeable Battery: Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the unit. Insert the Lithium-ion rechargeable battery (AD-T51BT) according to the polarity indicators. Close the cover securely.
  2. Charging the Rechargeable Battery:
    • Using the Charging Stand: Place the MD recorder onto the charging stand. Connect the AC adapter to the charging stand and then to a power outlet. The charging indicator will illuminate. Charging time is approximately 4 hours.
    • Direct AC Adapter Connection: Connect the AC adapter directly to the DC IN terminal on the MD recorder and then to a power outlet. Charging time is approximately 3 hours.
  3. Using AA Alkaline Batteries (Optional): Insert one AA alkaline battery (sold separately) into the dry cell case, observing the correct polarity. Connect the dry cell case to the unit's external power terminal.

3.2. Connecting Headphones and Remote Control

Connect the headphones to the headphone/remote control jack. If using the LCD remote control, connect it to the same jack, and then plug the headphones into the remote control's headphone jack.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Inserting an MD

Slide the OPEN switch to open the MD compartment. Insert a MiniDisc with the label side facing up until it clicks into place. Close the compartment cover.

4.2. Playback

  1. Insert an MD.
  2. Press the PLAY/PAUSE button to start playback.
  3. Use the SKIP buttons (|<< / >>|) to navigate between tracks.
  4. Adjust the volume using the VOLUME control on the unit or remote control.
  5. Press the STOP button to stop playback.

4.3. Recording

The MD-MT831-S supports recording from Line/Optical Digital input or Microphone input.

  1. Connect Audio Source:
    • For Line/Optical Digital input: Connect your audio source (e.g., CD player, digital audio device) to the LINE/OPTICAL DIGITAL IN jack using the appropriate cable.
    • For Microphone input: Connect a microphone (plug-in power compatible) to the MIC IN jack.
  2. Insert a blank or erasable MD.
  3. Press the REC button. The unit will enter recording standby mode.
  4. Start playback on your audio source (if applicable).
  5. Press the REC button again to begin recording. The recording indicator will light up.
  6. To stop recording, press the STOP button.

5. Maintenance

5.1. Cleaning the Unit

Wipe the exterior of the unit with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, dampen the cloth with a mild detergent solution and then wipe with a dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or alcohol, as they may damage the finish.

5.2. Battery Care

  • If the unit will not be used for an extended period, remove the rechargeable battery and any dry cell batteries to prevent leakage and damage.
  • Store batteries in a cool, dry place.
  • Do not expose batteries to excessive heat or direct sunlight.
