3. Setup

3.1 Installation

  1. Choose Location: Select a location on your windshield that does not obstruct your view of the road. Typically, this is behind the rearview mirror.
  2. Clean Surface: Ensure the windshield surface is clean and dry before applying the adhesive mount.
  3. Attach Mount: Securely attach the adhesive mount to the chosen location.
  4. Mount Dash Cam: Slide the YI Mini Dash Cam onto the mount until it clicks into place.
  5. Connect Power: Connect the USB power cable to the dash cam and route it along the windshield edge and dashboard to the car charger adapter. Plug the adapter into your vehicle's 12V power outlet.

3.2 Initial Configuration

  1. Insert MicroSD Card: Insert a Class 10 or higher MicroSD card (up to 64GB, not included) into the designated slot on the dash cam.
  2. Power On: Start your vehicle. The dash cam will power on automatically and begin recording.
  3. Format SD Card: It is recommended to format the MicroSD card through the dash cam's settings menu upon first use and periodically thereafter.
  4. Set Date and Time: Adjust the date and time settings via the dash cam's menu or through the YI Dash App for accurate timestamping of recordings.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Basic Recording

Once powered on, the YI Mini Dash Cam C1B automatically begins continuous loop recording. Video segments are typically 1 or 3 minutes long. When the MicroSD card is full, the oldest unprotected files will be overwritten by new recordings.

4.2 G-Sensor and Emergency Recording

The built-in G-Sensor detects sudden impacts or rapid acceleration/deceleration. When triggered, the dash cam automatically saves the current recording segment and locks it to prevent overwriting. These emergency files are stored in a separate folder on the MicroSD card. You can adjust the G-Sensor sensitivity in the settings.

4.3 Using the 2-inch LCD Screen

The 2-inch LCD screen allows you to:

  • View live footage.
  • Playback recorded videos.
  • Access and change device settings (e.g., resolution, loop recording duration, G-Sensor sensitivity, Wi-Fi).

4.4 YI Dash App Connection

  1. Download App: Download the "YI Dash" app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
  2. Enable Wi-Fi: Turn on Wi-Fi on your dash cam via the settings menu.
  3. Connect Phone: On your smartphone, connect to the dash cam's Wi-Fi network (SSID and password will be displayed on the dash cam screen).
  4. Access Features: Use the app to:
    • View live footage on your phone.
    • Playback and download recorded videos directly to your phone.
    • Adjust all dash cam settings remotely.
    • Share footage to social media or save for insurance purposes.

5. Maintenance

  • Clean Lens: Regularly clean the camera lens with a soft, lint-free cloth to ensure clear recordings.
  • Clean Screen: Use a soft cloth to clean the LCD screen. Avoid abrasive materials.
  • SD Card Management: Format the MicroSD card monthly to maintain optimal performance and prevent data corruption. Replace the MicroSD card if it shows signs of degradation or error.
  • Temperature: Avoid exposing the dash cam to extreme temperatures for extended periods. High temperatures can affect battery life and device integrity.
  • Firmware Updates: Check the YI website or app periodically for firmware updates to improve performance and add new features.

6. Troubleshooting

Dash cam does not power on.
  • Check if the car charger is properly connected to the vehicle's power outlet and the dash cam.
  • Ensure the vehicle's 12V power outlet is functioning.
  • The dash cam powers on automatically when the car starts; ensure the car is running.
Recording stops or freezes.
  • The MicroSD card may be full. Format the card.
  • The MicroSD card may be too slow or corrupted. Use a Class 10 or higher card and replace if necessary.
  • Ensure the dash cam's firmware is up to date.
Date/Time resets frequently.
  • This can occur if the internal battery is low or depleted. Ensure the dash cam is consistently powered when the vehicle is in use.
  • Connect to the YI Dash App to synchronize time.
Wi-Fi connection issues.
  • Ensure Wi-Fi is enabled on the dash cam and your smartphone.
  • Check that you are connecting to the correct Wi-Fi network provided by the dash cam.
  • Restart both the dash cam and your smartphone.
Dash cam overheats or deforms.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight in parked vehicles, especially in hot climates.
  • Ensure proper ventilation around the device.
  • If deformation occurs, discontinue use and contact support.
