ORIENT 'Epoch' Manual Winding Power Reserve Pocket Watch DD00002W User Manual

Model: DD00002W

1. Introduction

This manual provides instructions for the proper use and care of your Orient 'Epoch' Manual Winding Power Reserve Pocket Watch, model DD00002W. This timepiece features a mechanical manual winding movement, a power reserve indicator, and a sapphire crystal. Please read this manual thoroughly to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your watch.

2. Setup

2.1 Unboxing and Initial Inspection

Carefully remove the pocket watch and its chain from the packaging. Inspect the watch for any visible damage.

2.2 Winding the Watch

To wind the watch, ensure the crown is in its normal, pushed-in position. Rotate the crown clockwise. You will feel a slight resistance as the mainspring tightens. Continue winding until you feel a firm stop. Do not force the crown past this point, as over-winding can damage the movement. A fully wound watch will typically run for approximately 40 hours, as indicated by the power reserve display.

2.3 Setting the Time

To set the time, gently pull the crown outwards to the time-setting position. Rotate the crown in either direction to move the hour and minute hands to the desired time. Once the time is set, push the crown back into its normal position. The watch features a second hand stop mechanism, which allows for precise time setting.

2.4 Attaching the Chain

The pocket watch comes with a metal chain. Attach one end of the chain to the loop on the watch case and the other end to your vest, belt loop, or pocket using the provided clasp. This secures the watch and prevents accidental drops.

3. Operation

3.1 Power Reserve Indicator

The power reserve indicator on the dial displays the remaining running time of the watch. When fully wound, the indicator will show maximum power. As the watch runs, the indicator will gradually move towards zero. It is recommended to wind the watch daily to maintain optimal performance and prevent it from stopping.

3.2 Second Hand Stop Mechanism

When the crown is pulled out to the time-setting position, the second hand will stop. This feature, also known as "hacking," allows for precise synchronization of the watch with a reference time source.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning

To clean the watch case and sapphire crystal, use a soft, lint-free cloth. For stubborn smudges, slightly dampen the cloth with water. Avoid using harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive materials, as these can damage the watch's finish and seals.

4.2 Water Resistance

This pocket watch is not designed for water immersion. Avoid exposing it to water, moisture, or extreme humidity. Water damage is not covered under warranty.

4.3 Storage

When not in use, store the watch in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and strong magnetic fields. Keeping it in its original box or a soft pouch can protect it from dust and scratches.

4.4 Servicing

Mechanical watches require periodic servicing to ensure accurate timekeeping and longevity. It is recommended to have your Orient pocket watch serviced by an authorized watchmaker every 3-5 years.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 Watch Not Running

  • Check Winding: Ensure the watch is fully wound. Rotate the crown clockwise until resistance is felt.
  • Crown Position: Verify the crown is pushed in completely. If it's pulled out, the watch will not run.
  • Impact: If the watch has experienced a significant impact, internal components may be damaged. Contact a service center.

5.2 Time Inaccuracy

  • Winding Frequency: Ensure the watch is wound regularly, ideally daily, to maintain consistent power.
  • Magnetic Fields: Exposure to strong magnetic fields (e.g., speakers, certain electronics) can affect accuracy. If suspected, demagnetization by a professional may be required.
  • Servicing: If the watch consistently runs too fast or too slow despite proper winding and care, it may require professional adjustment or servicing.
