Setup

1. Attaching the Lens

Align the red dot on the lens with the red dot on the camera body. Rotate the lens clockwise until it clicks into place.

2. Inserting the Battery

Open the battery compartment cover on the bottom of the camera. Insert the LP-E10 battery pack with the contacts facing inward, then close the cover.

3. Inserting a Memory Card

Open the memory card slot cover. Insert an SD card (sold separately) with the label facing the back of the camera until it clicks. Close the cover.

4. Initial Power On

Turn the power switch to the ON position. The LCD monitor will display the initial setup screen, prompting you to set the date, time, and time zone.

Operating the Camera

1. Mode Dial

The mode dial on top of the camera allows you to select various shooting modes, including:

  • Scene Intelligent Auto (Green Square): Fully automatic mode for general shooting.
  • Program AE (P): Camera sets aperture and shutter speed, you control other settings.
  • Shutter-priority AE (Tv): You set shutter speed, camera sets aperture.
  • Aperture-priority AE (Av): You set aperture, camera sets shutter speed.
  • Manual (M): You control both aperture and shutter speed.
  • Creative Auto (CA): Simplified control over background blur and other effects.
  • Scene Modes (SCN): Specific settings for portraits, landscapes, sports, etc.

2. Focusing

The EOS Rebel T6 features a 9-point AF system. You can select between Autofocus (AF) and Manual Focus (MF) using the switch on the lens.

  • Autofocus: Press the shutter button halfway to focus.
  • Manual Focus: Rotate the focusing ring on the lens until the subject appears sharp in the viewfinder or on the LCD.

3. Adjusting ISO Sensitivity

Press the ISO button on the back of the camera and use the main dial to adjust the ISO sensitivity. Higher ISO values are suitable for low-light conditions but may introduce more noise.

4. Wi-Fi and NFC Connectivity

The camera features built-in Wi-Fi and NFC for easy sharing of images to compatible smart devices and social media sites. Download the Canon Camera Connect app to your smartphone or tablet to utilize these features.

For NFC, simply touch the camera to an NFC-compatible smartphone to establish a connection.

5. Recording Movies

To record movies, set the mode dial to the movie shooting mode. Press the Live View shooting/Movie shooting button to start and stop recording.

Maintenance

1. Cleaning the Camera and Lens

Use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean the camera body. For the lens, use a lens brush to remove dust, followed by a lens cleaning solution and a microfiber cloth. Avoid touching the lens surface with your fingers.

2. Battery Care

Charge the battery fully before each use. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when not in use. Do not expose the battery to extreme temperatures.

3. Storage

When storing the camera for extended periods, remove the battery and memory card. Store the camera in a dry, well-ventilated area, preferably in a camera bag with desiccant packets to prevent mold and mildew.

Troubleshooting

Camera does not power on.Ensure battery is fully charged and correctly inserted. Check battery contacts for dirt.
Images are blurry.Check focus mode (AF/MF). Ensure sufficient light. Use a faster shutter speed or tripod if necessary.
Memory card error.Reinsert the card. Try a different card. Format the card (this will erase all data).
Flash does not fire.Check flash settings. Ensure the flash is popped up. Flash may be disabled in certain modes.
