5. Installation

5.1 Mounting the Pump

The pump should be mounted in a dry, well-ventilated area, protected from direct sunlight and freezing temperatures. The rubber mounting bracket base helps minimize vibration and noise.

  1. Select a secure, flat surface for mounting.
  2. Position the pump and mark the locations for the mounting screws. Refer to the dimensions in Section 4.
  3. Secure the pump using appropriate fasteners (not included) through the rubber mounting feet. Do not overtighten.

5.2 Plumbing Connections

Use flexible hose on both the inlet and outlet to reduce vibration and noise. Ensure all connections are secure to prevent leaks.

  1. Connect the inlet hose (suction side) to the pump's inlet port. The pump is self-priming up to 4 feet.
  2. Connect the outlet hose (discharge side) to your water system.
  3. Use 3/8" hose barb fittings for all connections. Secure hoses with hose clamps to prevent disconnections and leaks.
  4. Consider installing a filter on the inlet side to protect the pump from debris.

5.3 Electrical Connections

Ensure correct polarity and use appropriate wire gauges for your installation.

  1. Connect the red wire from the pump to the positive (+) terminal of your 12V DC power source.
  2. Connect the black wire from the pump to the negative (-) terminal of your 12V DC power source.
  3. Install an appropriate fuse (e.g., 5A) in the positive line close to the power source for circuit protection.
  4. Ensure all electrical connections are clean, tight, and protected from moisture.

6. Operating Instructions

The SEAFLO pump features an adjustable pressure switch for automatic operation.

  1. Initial Priming: Ensure the water source is available. Open a faucet in your system to allow air to escape. Turn on the pump. The pump will self-prime and begin to move water. Once water flows steadily from the faucet, close it.
  2. Automatic Operation: The pump will automatically turn on when a faucet is opened and the system pressure drops. It will turn off when the faucet is closed and the system pressure reaches the shut-off setting.
  3. Adjusting Pressure Switch: The pressure switch is factory set to 35 PSI. If adjustment is needed, locate the adjustment screw on the pressure switch housing.
    • Turn the screw clockwise to increase the shut-off pressure.
    • Turn the screw counter-clockwise to decrease the shut-off pressure.

Note: Adjustments should be made incrementally. Excessive adjustment can damage the pump or lead to inconsistent operation. The pressure range is typically 17-80 PSI.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your pump.

  • Inspect Connections: Periodically check all plumbing and electrical connections for tightness and signs of wear or corrosion.
  • Clean Inlet Filter: If an inlet filter is installed, clean it regularly to prevent debris from entering the pump and reducing flow.
  • Winterization: In freezing conditions, drain all water from the pump and plumbing system to prevent damage. Running RV antifreeze through the system is recommended.
  • Storage: If storing the pump for an extended period, ensure it is clean, dry, and stored in a non-freezing environment.
