Important Safety Information

  • Caution: Sharps container for medical waste disposal. Risk of biohazard exposure and puncture injuries. Follow local regulations for disposal.
  • Designed for safe disposal of used needles, syringes, and other sharp medical devices.

Setup Instructions

The Dynarex Sharps Container is designed for immediate use upon receipt. No assembly is required. Please follow these steps to prepare your container for use:

  1. Place the container on a stable, flat surface to prevent accidental tipping during use.
  2. Ensure the translucent lid is securely attached to the red base. The disposal opening should be in the open position or easily movable.
  3. Verify that the permanent locking tabs on the lid are not engaged. These tabs are designed for final disposal and should not be pressed until the container is full.

Operating Instructions

Disposing of Sharps

Follow these guidelines for safe disposal of sharp medical waste:

  1. Carefully hold the sharp object with the sharp end pointed away from your body and others.
  2. Locate the large opening on the translucent lid.
  3. Gently insert the sharp object into the opening. The design allows for horizontal insertion to maximize space.
  4. The counterbalanced opening will automatically close once the sharp is dropped inside, minimizing exposure.

Permanent Locking Mechanism

Once the container is full (up to the "FILL LINE" indicator) or ready for final disposal, engage the permanent lock:

  1. Ensure the container is not overfilled. The fill line is clearly marked on the label.
  2. Apply firm, even pressure to the right and left corners of the translucent lid.
  3. Continue pressing until you hear a distinct "snap." This sound confirms that the lid is permanently locked.
Translucent lid allowing monitoring of fill level

The translucent lid allows for easy visual inspection of the fill level.

WARNING: Once the lid is permanently locked, it cannot be reopened. Do not attempt to force it open, as this may compromise the container's integrity and safety. Dispose of the full, locked container according to local regulations.

Maintenance

The Dynarex Sharps Container is a single-use device and requires minimal maintenance. However, regular inspection is recommended:

  • Inspect the container regularly for any signs of damage, such as cracks, punctures, or deformities.
  • If any damage is observed, immediately discontinue use and replace the container.
  • Keep the exterior of the container clean by wiping it with a damp cloth if necessary. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.

Troubleshooting

Difficulty Opening the Lid (Initial Use)

Some users may find the initial opening of the translucent lid stiff. This is a safety feature to ensure the container is secure during transport.

  • To open, gently but firmly pry the movable part of the lid at the designated opening points.
  • It is recommended to use a flat, non-sharp object (e.g., the back of a remote control or a sturdy plastic card) rather than fingers or sharp tools to avoid injury or damage to the lid.
  • Ensure you are only attempting to open the disposal slot, not the permanent locking tabs.

Container Appears Locked Upon Arrival

The container is shipped with the permanent locking mechanism disengaged. If it appears locked, it is likely the movable disposal opening that is stiff. Refer to the "Difficulty Opening the Lid (Initial Use)" section above.

The permanent lock is only engaged by applying firm pressure to the corners until a "snap" is heard. If this has not occurred, the container is not permanently locked.
