Remi 2 MLH Stirrers with Hotplate User Manual

Model: 2MLH

1. Introduction

The Remi 2 MLH Stirrer with Hotplate is a compact magnetic stirrer designed for laboratory applications requiring precise stirring and heating. It features a stainless steel top housing and a Permanent Magnet DC (PMDC) motor, ensuring stable speed control even with varying viscosity or volume. This model is suitable for stirring applications up to 2 liters and includes an integrated hotplate for temperature control.

This manual provides essential information for the safe installation, operation, and maintenance of your Remi 2 MLH Stirrer with Hotplate. Please read it thoroughly before using the device.

2. Safety Instructions

Always observe the following safety precautions to prevent injury or damage to the equipment:

  • Ensure the unit is placed on a stable, level, and heat-resistant surface.
  • Connect the unit to a properly grounded power outlet with the correct voltage.
  • Do not operate the stirrer in environments with explosive or flammable materials.
  • Avoid touching the hotplate surface during and immediately after operation, as it can remain hot for an extended period. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as heat-resistant gloves.
  • Do not immerse the unit in water or other liquids.
  • Always disconnect the power cord before cleaning or performing maintenance.
  • Use only compatible stirring bars (magnetic stir paddles) with the unit.
  • Keep the work area clear and free from obstructions.
  • Do not operate the unit if it is damaged or malfunctioning. Contact qualified service personnel.

3. Package Contents

Upon unpacking, verify that all components are present and undamaged:

  • Remi 2 MLH Stirrer with Hotplate unit
  • Power Cord
  • Stirring Paddle (PTFE coated, Q-19A, 9 x 35 mm)
  • User Manual (this document)

If any items are missing or damaged, contact your supplier immediately.

4. Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the stirrer from its packaging. Retain the packaging for future transport or storage.
  2. Placement: Place the unit on a stable, level, and non-flammable surface in a well-ventilated area. Ensure there is adequate space around the unit for air circulation.
  3. Power Connection: Connect the power cord to the stirrer's power inlet and then to a grounded electrical outlet. Ensure the voltage matches the unit's requirements.
  4. Initial Inspection: Before first use, inspect the unit for any visible damage.

5. Operating Instructions

The Remi 2 MLH Stirrer with Hotplate features separate controls for stirring speed and heating.

5.1. Stirring Operation

  1. Place a beaker or flask containing the liquid to be stirred on the center of the hotplate surface.
  2. Carefully drop the magnetic stirring paddle (Q-19A, 9 x 35 mm) into the liquid.
  3. Turn the stirrer's power switch to the 'ON' position.
  4. Rotate the speed control knob clockwise to gradually increase the stirring speed. The digital display will show the current RPM. Adjust the speed until the desired vortex is achieved without splashing. The maximum stirring speed is approximately 1200 rpm.
  5. To stop stirring, turn the speed control knob counter-clockwise to its minimum setting, then turn off the power switch.

5.2. Heating Operation

Caution: The hotplate surface can reach high temperatures. Always use caution and appropriate PPE.

  1. Ensure the beaker or flask is heat-resistant and suitable for the desired temperature.
  2. Turn the hotplate's power switch to the 'ON' position.
  3. Rotate the temperature control knob to set the desired heating level. The hotplate will begin to heat up.
  4. Monitor the temperature of the liquid using an external thermometer, if precise temperature control is required.
  5. To stop heating, turn the temperature control knob to its minimum setting, then turn off the hotplate power switch. Allow the hotplate to cool down completely before touching or moving the unit.

5.3. Combined Stirring and Heating

Both stirring and heating functions can be operated simultaneously. Follow the steps for both operations, adjusting speed and temperature as required for your application.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Remi 2 MLH Stirrer with Hotplate.

6.1. Cleaning

  • Always disconnect the unit from the power supply before cleaning.
  • Allow the hotplate surface to cool down completely.
  • Wipe the exterior surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. For stubborn stains, a mild detergent can be used.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or immerse the unit in water.
  • Ensure all surfaces are dry before reconnecting to power.

6.2. Storage

When not in use for extended periods, store the stirrer in a clean, dry, and dust-free environment. Keep it away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

7. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter. For problems not listed here, contact customer support.

  • Unit does not power on:
    • Check if the power cord is securely connected to both the unit and the power outlet.
    • Verify that the power outlet is functional.
    • Ensure the power switch on the unit is in the 'ON' position.
  • Stirring paddle does not rotate or rotates erratically:
    • Ensure the stirring paddle is centered on the hotplate and within the magnetic field.
    • Check if the liquid viscosity is too high for the selected speed. Reduce viscosity or increase speed gradually.
    • Verify that the stirring paddle is not damaged or worn.
    • Ensure the beaker is placed directly on the hotplate surface.
  • Hotplate not heating:
    • Ensure the hotplate power switch is 'ON'.
    • Check the temperature control knob setting.
    • Allow sufficient time for the hotplate to reach temperature.
