2. Important Safety Information

3. Setup
3.1. Charging the Robot
- Place the Home Base charging station against a wall in an open, uncluttered area. Ensure there is at least 0.5 meters (1.5 feet) of clear space on each side of the Home Base and 1.2 meters (4 feet) in front of it.
- Plug the Home Base power cord into a wall outlet. The power indicator light on the Home Base will illuminate.
- Place your Roomba onto the Home Base, ensuring the metal charging contacts on the robot align with those on the Home Base. The robot will emit a tone, and the CLEAN button will pulse amber, indicating it is charging.
- Allow Roomba to charge for at least 3 hours before its first use. A fully charged battery will show a solid green CLEAN button.
3.2. Preparing the Cleaning Area
For optimal cleaning performance, prepare your home by removing clutter, loose power cords, small objects, and fragile items from the floor. Ensure any thick rugs or tassels are folded away to prevent entanglement.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1. Starting a Cleaning Cycle
- Press the CLEAN button once to wake up Roomba. The button will illuminate.
- Press the CLEAN button again to start a cleaning cycle. Roomba will leave the Home Base and begin cleaning.
4.2. Spot Cleaning
For concentrated cleaning of a small area, use the Spot Clean mode:
- Place Roomba on top of the localized debris.
- Press the CLEAN button to wake up Roomba.
- Press the SPOT button. Roomba will clean in a spiral pattern, then return to its starting point.
4.3. Pausing/Resuming a Cleaning Cycle
To pause Roomba during a cleaning cycle, press the CLEAN button once. To resume, press CLEAN again.
4.4. Ending a Cleaning Cycle / Returning to Home Base
To send Roomba back to its Home Base during a cleaning cycle, press the DOCK button. Roomba will navigate back to the Home Base to recharge.

5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance is crucial for keeping your Roomba 616 operating at peak performance. Perform these tasks regularly:
5.1. Emptying the Dust Bin (After Each Use)
- Press the bin release tab and pull out the dust bin.
- Open the bin door and empty all debris into a trash receptacle.
- Tap the bin to dislodge any remaining debris.
- Reinsert the bin into Roomba until it clicks into place.
5.2. Cleaning the Filter (Once or Twice a Week)
- Remove the dust bin.
- Remove the filter by grasping the yellow tab.
- Tap the filter against a trash can to remove debris. Do not wash the filter.
- Reinsert the clean filter.
5.3. Cleaning the Brushes (Once a Week)
- Open the brush guard by lifting the two yellow tabs.
- Remove the main brushes.
- Remove hair and debris from the brushes and brush bearings. Use the cleaning tool provided.
- Reinstall the brushes and close the brush guard.
5.4. Cleaning the Front Caster Wheel (Once Every Two Weeks)
- Pull firmly on the front wheel to remove it from the robot.
- Remove any hair or debris from the wheel cavity and axle.
- Reinsert the wheel.
5.5. Cleaning the Sensors and Charging Contacts (Once a Month)
Wipe the charging contacts on Roomba and the Home Base, as well as the cliff sensors on the bottom of Roomba, with a clean, dry cloth.
6. Troubleshooting
If your Roomba 616 encounters an issue, it will often play a two-tone distress sound followed by a spoken message. Consult the iRobot Home App (if applicable for your model) or the iRobot support website for specific error codes and solutions. Here are some common issues:
- Roomba not charging: Ensure the Home Base is plugged in and the charging contacts on both the robot and Home Base are clean.
- Roomba not starting: Ensure the battery is charged. Press the CLEAN button firmly.
- Roomba getting stuck: Clear the cleaning area of obstacles. Clean the brushes and front caster wheel for debris.
- Poor cleaning performance: Empty the dust bin, clean or replace the filter, and clean the main brushes.
