Maintenance
Proper care and maintenance will ensure the longevity of your Sangean HDT-20 tuner.
Cleaning
- Always unplug the unit from the power outlet before cleaning.
- Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior surfaces.
- For stubborn marks, lightly dampen the cloth with water or a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Avoid using strong solvents or abrasive pads, as these can damage the finish.
- Do not allow water or liquids to enter the unit.
Storage
If storing the unit for an extended period, disconnect it from power and store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your HDT-20, refer to the following common problems and solutions.
- No Power:
Ensure the power cord is securely connected to both the unit and a working AC outlet. - No Sound from Speakers (Analog Output):
Verify that the RCA cables are correctly connected to the 'LINE OUT' of the HDT-20 and an appropriate input on your receiver. Confirm your receiver is set to the correct input source and its volume is adjusted. - No Sound from Speakers (Digital Output - Optical/Coaxial):
Ensure the digital cable (optical or coaxial) is securely connected to both the HDT-20 and your receiver/DAC. Confirm your receiver/DAC is set to the correct digital input. Some users have reported issues with digital outputs on certain frequencies; if this occurs, try using the analog RCA outputs as an alternative. - Poor FM/AM Reception:
Adjust the position and orientation of the FM telescopic antenna and AM loop antenna. Ensure they are extended and away from other electronic devices or metal objects that may cause interference. Consider upgrading to a higher-gain external antenna for improved signal strength, especially in fringe reception areas. - HD Radio Signal Drop-outs:
HD Radio signals require a strong, stable signal. If drop-outs occur, try repositioning your antenna or consider an amplified antenna. The unit may revert to analog FM if the HD signal becomes too weak. - Remote Control Not Working:
Check the batteries in the remote control and replace them if necessary (2 AAA batteries). Ensure there are no obstructions between the remote and the unit's infrared sensor. - Difficulty Setting Presets:
Ensure you press and hold the PRESET button until the number flashes, then press the desired number button. Refer to the 'Setting Presets' section for detailed steps. - Headphone Volume Control Only Affects Headphones:
This is normal operation. The volume control on the HDT-20 is specifically for the headphone output and does not affect the analog or digital line outputs connected to your main audio system.
